Habe ich es schon erw\u00e4hnt? Wahrscheinlich schon, und wahrscheinlich werde ich Euch noch ein paar weiter Male erz\u00e4hlen: Wir haben \u00fcberall in Polen so viele sch\u00f6ne Fassaden gesehen, mit oft sehr interessanten Details:<\/p>\n

Did I mention that already? Probably I have, and probably I will tell you the same stuff a few more times: All over Poland we have seen so many beautiful house fronts, often with very interesting details:<\/p>\n

Eigentlich waren wir unterwegs zum n\u00e4chsten Schloss … aber so schnell kamen wir da nicht hin, es gab ja unterwegs viel zu viel zu sehen. Zum Beispiel dieses Haus neben der Kirche des Heiligen Erl\u00f6sers.<\/p>\n

We were really on our way to the next castle … but we did not get there all that fast, there was so much to see on the way. For example this house next to the Church of the Holy Saviour.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Die Kirche selber war au\u00dfen komplett mit Ger\u00fcsten umkleidet, daher muten wir Euch davon kein Foto zu. Wir sind aber nat\u00fcrlich auch hineingegangen:<\/p>\n

The church itself was all enclosed by scaffolding on the outside, so we will not bother you with a picture of that. But of course we also went inside:<\/p>\n

Die gotische Kirche wurde 1866-1869 gebaut. Sind die Fenster nicht wundersch\u00f6n?<\/p>\n

The gothic church was built 1866-1869. Aren’t the windows just gorgeous?<\/p>\n

Auch die Decke war sch\u00f6n. Die Kirche war \u00fcbrigens urspr\u00fcnglich evangelisch-lutherisch, nach dem Ende des 2. Weltkriegs wurde sie vom Erzbistum Posen \u00fcbernommen und ist damit jetzt r\u00f6misch-katholisch.<\/p>\n

The ceiling was also beautiful. By the way, the church was originally Lutheran, then after the end of the second world war, it was taken over by the archbishopric Poznan, and therefore now is Roman Catholic.<\/p>\n

Das Collegium Maius der Adam-Mickiewicz-Universit\u00e4t haben wir als n\u00e4chstes entdeckt. Gebaut 1905-1908 im Stil des wilhelminischen Barock, orientiert sich das Geb\u00e4ude am Vorbild der Palastarchitektur.<\/p>\n

The Collegium Maius of the Adam Mickiwicz University was our next discovery. Erected 1905-1908 in the style of Emperor Wilhelm Baroque, the building draws on palace architecture.<\/p>\n

Mal wieder eine sehr interessante Fassade, hier nur ein kleines Detail:<\/p>\n

Once again a very interesting facade, here just one little detail:<\/p>\n

Den Innenraum schm\u00fcckt eine monumentale Eingangshalle mit Galerien.<\/p>\n

The interior features a monumental hall with a row of galleries.<\/p>\n

Bis 1919 war hier der Sitz der K\u00f6niglich Preu\u00dfischen Ansiedlungskommission, die 1886 auf Anregung von Otto von Bismarck entstanden war. Ihr Zweck war es, durch den Ankauf polnischer Landg\u00fcter durch den preu\u00dfischen Staat Gel\u00e4nde f\u00fcr die Ansiedlung der deutschen Bauern zu gewinnen.<\/p>\n

Up until 1919 the building housed the Royal Prussian Settlement Commission, established 1886 on the initiative of Otto von Bismarck. Its purpose was to provide land where German farmers could settle, by buying up Polish estates by the Prussian state.<\/p>\n

1920 wurde das Geb\u00e4ude von der polnischen Regierung der Posener Universit\u00e4t \u00fcbergeben.<\/p>\n

In 1920 the Polish government presented the building to the University of Poznan.<\/p>\n

Heute sind hier die Fakult\u00e4t f\u00fcr polnische und klassische Philologie sowie das Rektorat der Medizinischen Universit\u00e4t untergebracht.<\/p>\n

Today it houses the faculty of Polish and classical philology as well as the rector’s office of the University of Medical Sciences.<\/p>\n

On we go. We reached the Imperial Castle!<\/p>\n

Den zugeh\u00f6rigen Park …<\/p>\n

… schm\u00fcckt ein Denkmal f\u00fcr die seit Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts in der sibirischen Verbannung verstorbenen oder in der sowjetischen Gefangenschaft in Katyn ermordeten Polen.<\/p>\n

… is adorned by a memorial for the Poles who since the middle of the 19th century died in Siberian exile or were murdered in Katyn while imprisoned by the Soviets.<\/p>\n

1905 wurde der Bau unter deutscher Herrschaft begonnen, und 1910 wurde das Schloss feierlich an Kaiser Wilhelm II \u00fcbergeben.<\/p>\n

Construction of the castle started in 1905 under German rule, and in 1910 the castle was ceremonially handed over to Emperor William II.<\/p>\n

Zwischen den Weltkriegen diente es als Residenz des polnischen Staatspr\u00e4sidenten.<\/p>\n

Between the two world wars, it served as residence for the Polish president.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Und einige R\u00e4ume wurden der Universit\u00e4t zur Verf\u00fcgung gestellt.<\/p>\n

And some rooms were made available to the university.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

In den Mauern des Schlosses studierten unter anderem polnische Mathematiker, die den Code der deutschen Chiffriermaschine „Enigma“ entschl\u00fcsselten.<\/p>\n

Among many others, those Polish mathematicians studied inside the walls of this castle, who decrypted the code of the German „Enigma“ cipher machine.<\/p>\n

W\u00e4hrend des zweiten Weltkrieges wurde das Innere des Schlosses weitgehend umgebaut, um als Residenz Hitlers dienen zu k\u00f6nnen (Hitler besuchte das Schloss aber nie).<\/p>\n

During WWII the inside of the castle was extensively remodeled so that it could serve as residence for Hitler (nonetheless Hitler never visited the site).<\/p>\n

Vier Bilder weiter oben ist Euch im Hintergrund vielleicht ein kleines – also eher sehr gro\u00dfes (21m und 19m) – Detail aufgefallen. Hier seht Ihr es von etwas n\u00e4her:<\/p>\n

Four pictures before, maybe in the background you noticed a small – or rather quite very large (21m and 19m) – detail. Here you can see it from a bit closer:<\/p>\n

Dieses Denkmal wurde am 28. Juni 1981 enth\u00fcllt, zum 25. Jahrestag des Posener Aufstandes.<\/p>\n

This memorial was unveiled June 28, 1981, at the 25th anniversary of the Poznan uprising.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Damals hatten Arbeiter wegen ihrer Arbeitsbedingungen protestiert. Durch die Erh\u00f6hung von Quoten fielen zum Beispiel eigentlich erarbeitete Bonuszahlungen flach. Die Proteste wurden schlie\u00dflich blutig niedergeschlagen, es gab mindestens 57 Tote und 600 Verletzte.<\/p>\n

Back then workers had protested against harsh working conditions. Because of the raising of quotas for example, bonus payments that they would have achieved were denied. The protests were finally forcefully brought to an end, there were at least 57 dead and 600 wounded.<\/p>\n

And here now the Collegium Minus, the central administrative building of the university.<\/p>\n

Nat\u00fcrlich sind wir reingegangen.<\/p>\n

Of course we did go inside.<\/p>\n

Hier gibt es eine gro\u00dfe Aula, in der oft klassische Konzerte gegeben werden, aber wir haben gesehen, oder eher geh\u00f6rt, dass hier \u00fcberall Musik zu finden ist. In den G\u00e4ngen:<\/p>\n

Here they have a large aula which is frequently used for classical concerts, but we could see, or rather hear, that you can find music here all over the place. In the hallways:<\/p>\n

Das war ein sch\u00f6ner musikalischer Kurzausflug.<\/p>\n

That was a very nice short musical excursion.<\/p>\n

… but there was no info board or anything …<\/p>\n

… und im Internet habe ich nur jede Menge polnische (nehme ich an) Seiten gefunden.<\/p>\n

… and on the internet I found only all kinds of Polish (I assume) pages.<\/p>\n

Schade, mich h\u00e4tte schon ein bisschen mehr Info interessiert.<\/p>\n

Too bad, I would have liked to have some more information.<\/p>\n
