Gebaut im 13. Jahrhundert, ist dies die einzige Kirche in Breslau, die die \u00dcberf\u00e4lle durch die Tataren \u00fcberlebt hat, und heute ist sie die \u00e4lteste aktiv genutzte Kirche der Stadt.<\/p>\n

Built in the 13th century, this is the only church in Wroc\u0142aw to have survived the Tatar invasions and is today the oldest active church in the city.<\/p>\n

Nach einem kurzen Blick ins Innere sind wir weitergegangen, zur „Kathedrale St. Johannes der T\u00e4ufer“ gegen\u00fcber.<\/p>\n

After a short look inside we walked on again, to the „Cathedral of St. John the Baptist“, just across the street.<\/p>\n

Dieser gotische Dom wurde von 1244 bis 1341 gebaut. Die beiden T\u00fcrme sind mit knapp 98 Metern die h\u00f6chsten Kircht\u00fcrme der Stadt. Hier unten seht Ihr sch\u00f6n die Fenster im Stil der Gotik.<\/p>\n

This Gothic church was built between 1244 and 1341. The two towers with their height of almost 98 meters are the highest church towers of the city. Down below you can nicely see the windows in Gothic style.<\/p>\n

Wie so oft standen hier zuvor schon andere Kirchen, die zerst\u00f6rt und dann neu aufgebaut wurden. Nach der Invasion durch die Mongolen wurde die Kirche wieder einmal gr\u00f6\u00dftenteils neu aufgebaut, im jetzigen Stil. Sie war das erste Geb\u00e4ude der Stadt, das aus Ziegeln gebaut war, als 1244 der Bau des neuen Chors begann.<\/p>\n

As often happens, other churches had been standing here before, which were destroyed and then rebuilt. After the Mongol invasion, the church was again largely rebuilt in the present style. It was the first building of the city to be made of brick, when construction of the new choir started in 1244.<\/p>\n

Dann sind wir weitergegangen zur Tumski Br\u00fccke. Wie in Posen auch hier: „Liebesschl\u00f6sser“ ohne Ende.<\/p>\n

Then we walked on to the Tumski Bridge. Here we found the same as in Poznan: „love locks“ without end.<\/p>\n

Die jetzige Stahlbr\u00fccke wurde 1888-1892 gebaut.<\/p>\n

Today’s steel bridge was built 1888-1892.<\/p>\n

Jetzt wollten wir eigentlich zum Rathaus, aber auf dem Weg ist uns gleich wieder die n\u00e4chste Kirche aufgefallen: St. Maria auf dem Sande.<\/p>\n

Now we really meant to go to the town hall, but on the way we noticed the next church right away: the Church of Our Lady on the Sand.<\/p>\n

[In 2014, the portal and the door were restored with funds provided by the Federal Republic of Germany. ]<\/p>\n

Und so sieht die Kirche – eines der \u00e4ltesten gotischen Kirchengeb\u00e4ude Polens – von innen aus. Sehr hell und freundlich.<\/p>\n

And this is what the church – one of the oldest Gothic parochial buildings of Poland – looks like from the inside. Very bright and friendly.<\/p>\n

Auch diese Kirche wurde im 2. Weltkrieg stark zerst\u00f6rt. 1946 wurde mit dem Wiederaufbau begonnen – nach alten Pl\u00e4nen. Das Taufbecken ist eines der wenigen \u00dcberbleibsel von vor dem Krieg.<\/p>\n

This church as well was in large parts destroyed during WWII. 1946 the restauration was started – according to old blueprints. The baptismal font is one of the few remainders of the time before the war.<\/p>\n

Wir sind weitergegangen. Und haben wohl jemanden beim Nackt-Baden erwischt …<\/p>\n

We walked on. And by the looks of it, caught somebody skinny-dipping …<\/p>\n

Aber dann haben wir endlich das Rathaus entdeckt. Von au\u00dfen kannten wir es ja schon, aber dieses Mal wollten wir auch das Innere sehen.<\/p>\n

But then we finally reached the town hall. We had already seen it from the outside, but this time we also wanted to have a peek inside.<\/p>\n

Hier gibt es eine Ausstellung: das Museum der B\u00fcrgerlichen Kunst. Es werden Objekte gezeigt, die mit den Handwerk- und Kunstwerkst\u00e4tten der Stadt zu tun haben.<\/p>\n

Here they have an exhibition: the Museum of Burgher Art. They show objects that are connected with the places of skilled crafts and art in the city.<\/p>\n

Es sind viele Schautafeln aufgestellt, die \u00fcber alle Einzelheiten des Rathauses aufkl\u00e4ren und \u00fcber die Geschichte von Breslau.<\/p>\n

Many display panels are standing here, which tell you all about every part of the town hall and about Wroclaw’s history.<\/p>\n

Hier seht Ihr einige „K\u00f6nige“ und eine K\u00f6nigin! der \u00f6rtlichen Sch\u00fctzenbruderschaft. Im 13. Jahrhundert hatten alle gr\u00f6\u00dferen St\u00e4dte solche Bruderschaften. Hier haben sich Handwerker und H\u00e4ndler im Schie\u00dfen ge\u00fcbt – erst mit Armbrusten und Pfeil und Bogen, sp\u00e4ter mit Gewehren – um die Stadt gegen Eindringlinge zu verteidigen.<\/p>\n

Here you see some „Rooster Kings“ and one Queen! of the local brotherhood of the rooster. In the 13th century, all major cities had such brotherhoods. Here, craftsmen and merchants practised shooting – first with crossbows and bows and arrows, later with rifles – to defend the city against intruders.<\/p>\n

But just the halls in themselves were already well worth seeing!<\/p>\n
