Gut, dass wir gestern abend noch ein paar Fotos vom Schloss gemacht haben, solange das Licht noch gut war. Denn heute ist alles tr\u00fcb und grau … es sieht nach Regen aus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Good thing that yesterday we did take a few quick pictures of the castle, while the light was still good. Because today everything is grey and dull … it looks like rain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also nur ein paar Blicke von au\u00dfen. In einem Teil des Schlosses sitzt seit 1990 der Landtag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So just a few quick looks from the outside. In one part of the castle, the regional parliament has been sitting since 1990.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Der ganze Bau ist einfach gigantisch. Es gibt so viele Details zu entdecken. Der erste Schlossbau hier startete 1160, und was wir heute sehen, entstand bei einem Umbau zwischen 1843 und 1857. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The whole edifice is just titanic. There are so many details to discover. The first construction of a castle started here in 1160, and what we can see today is the result of a redesign between 1843 and 1857.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wir haben dann unsere Eintrittskarten gekauft und mussten ein Weilchen warten, bis die Leute vor uns ein St\u00fcck weitergegangen waren. Eine Chance, Blicke in den Innenhof zu werfen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We then bought our tickets and then had to wait for a while until the people ahead of us had moved on a bit. That gave us a chance to take some peaks into the courtyard. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die ersten paar R\u00e4ume sind noch nicht restauriert, wie wir erfuhren. Mehrfach hat sehr nettes Personal uns Zusatzinformationen gegeben, als sie merkten, dass wir Interesse hatten. Eine Weile wurden hier Kinderg\u00e4rtnerinnen ausgebildet. Dabei haben die Dekorationen hier und da einen Arm verloren. Es war ganz unterhaltsam, wie der Herr uns erz\u00e4hlte, dass eine Tafel beim Transport den einen Arm abschlug, der andere fiel einer T\u00fcr zum Opfer … <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first few rooms have not been restored yet, as we found out. Several times very friendly employees gave us additional information when they realized that we were interested in that. For a while female kindergarten workers were trained here. During that time the decorations lost an arm here and there. It was quite entertaining, how the gentleman told us that a blackboard knocked off one arm during transport, that the other fell victim to a door … <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Das hat er uns erz\u00e4hlt. Und auch augenzwinkernd, dass damals leider keine M\u00e4nner Zutritt hatten … Hier meinte er \u00fcbrigens, stand fr\u00fcher ein Waschbecken, und der Boden wurde \u00f6fter mal nass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That he told us. And also with a wink that back then men were not permitted access … Here he mentioned that back then they had had a sink, and the floor got wet here and there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wir haben so viele wunderbare R\u00e4ume gesehen! Und es gab so viel zum Anschauen. Die Decken zum Beispiel, immer wieder anders, immer wieder spektakul\u00e4r:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We saw so many wonderful rooms! And there was so much to look at. The ceilings for example, always different, always spectacular:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Und auch die B\u00f6den! Hier sieht man ganz klar den Unterschied: hier wurde restauriert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the floors as well! Here you can very clearly see the difference: this has been restored. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die W\u00e4nde, die M\u00f6bel, die T\u00fcren … Hier sind wir in der „Roten Audienz“ mit Wandbespannung aus rotem Seidendamast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The walls, the furniture, the doors … Here we are in the „Red Audience“ with wall covering of red damask silk. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Im Billardzimmer gibt es ein Stuckfries zu bewundern, das die ganze Decke uml\u00e4uft und viel zu entdecken bereith\u00e4lt. Wir haben so ein bisschen ger\u00e4tselt, was genau alles dargestellt ist. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Billard Room there is a stucco frieze to be admired, which runs all around the ceiling and there is lots to discover. We did wonder a bit what exactly is portrayed in the different scenes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Laut der Beschreibung handelt es sich um „humorvoll verfremdete Episoden der fr\u00fchen Menschheitsgeschichte.“ Offensichtlich sind da auch Spinnen und Schmetterlinge von Bedeutung …<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the description it „portrays in a humorously alienated fashion episodes of the early history of mankind.“ Obviously also spiders and butterflies play a role in that … <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aber es gab auch ganz andere Sachen zu sehen, zum Beispiel wurde uns ein Blick gew\u00e4hrt in das Heizsystem des Schlosses, hier im Thronsaal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But there were also things to see of quite a different kind, for example: we got to take a peak at the heating system of the castle, here in the throne room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wenn der Ofen am Laufen ist, werden die schweren Metallt\u00fcren davor geschlossen und strahlen die Hitze ab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the oven is running, the heavy metal doors in front of it are closed and then give off the theat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hier gehen wir jetzt in die Ahnengalerie, die „pr\u00e4sentiert eine l\u00fcckenlose Geschlechterfolge der Herz\u00f6ge von Mecklenburg-Schwerin seit Verleihung der Herzogsw\u00fcrde 1348“.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here now we stroll into the Ancestral Portrait Gallery, which „displays a complete line of succession of the dukes of Mecklenburg-Schwerin since the bestowal of dukedom in 1348“.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This here in dapper posture is the very first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Es gibt noch soviel mehr zu sehen. Aber das m\u00fcsst Ihr Euch dann selber anschauen. Die Bilder k\u00f6nnen der ganzen Pracht sowieso nicht gerecht werden. Dieses wandf\u00fcllende Bild hier h\u00e4ngt in einem der letzten R\u00e4ume, durch die man geht – leider ohne irgendeine Zusatzinfo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is still so much more to see. But you will have to go and look for yourselves. Anyhow, the pictures cannot really live up to all the splendour. This painting which covers almost a whole wall hangs in one of the last rooms that you walk through – unfortunately without any additional information. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wie wir uns das Gel\u00e4nde drau\u00dfen ansehen wollten, hat es angefangen zu nieseln, aber nicht zu stark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When we wanted to take a look at the area outside, it started to drizzle, but not too much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nicht nur das Schloss selber ist von au\u00dfen wundersch\u00f6n anzusehen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not only the castle itself is beautiful to look at. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Das Schloss liegt ja auf einer kleinen Insel … also hier der Vogel des Tages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zur\u00fcck zum Schloss: Die Schlosskirche war leider nicht f\u00fcr Besichtigungen ge\u00f6ffnet, schade, die Bilder im Internet hatten uns neugierig gemacht.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Back to the castle: The castle church was not open for sightseeing, which was too bad, the pictures on the web had triggered our interest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aber in den Innenhof durften wir. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But we were allowed into the courtyard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hier treffen wir noch einmal auf das Peterm\u00e4nnchen, das wir schon im Schloss auf einer bemalten Schrankt\u00fcr gesehen haben. Es handelt sich um den Schlossgeist von Schwerin, der uns aber nicht behelligt hat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here we once again run into the Peterm\u00e4nnchen („manikin Peter“), which we had already seen inside the castle on a painted door of a wardrobe. It is the ghost of the castle of Schwerin, but he did not bother us. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nur leider wurde der Regen st\u00e4rker …<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But unfortunately the rain got heavier … <\/p>\n\n\n\n

… und es gab auch eine Menge Donner. Wie Ihr sehen k\u00f6nnt, hat dieses Wesen sogar schon die Flossen angezogen … <\/p>\n\n\n\n

… there was also a lot of thunder. As you can see, this creature already put its flippers on … <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Naja, bei diesem Wetter kehren wir Schwerin jetzt den R\u00fccken zu und ziehen weiter. Heute \u00fcbernachten wir in L\u00fcneburg, hier unser Zimmerchen: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oh well, with the weather like this, we now turn our backs to Schwerin and move on. Today we will spend the night in L\u00fcneburg, here is our room:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We then went for a small stroll, mainly to get something to eat, but more about that in the next entry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
