And of course I also always check whether there are birds or fish to see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Am 19. hatten wir eine Notiz an unserer T\u00fcr gehabt: Der gebuchte Ausflug f\u00fcr Bonaire wurde von vormittags auf nachmittags verlegt. \u2013 Tja, das wird nichts, wir haben nachmittags auch schon was vor! Naja, und heute morgens um acht kam die \u00fcbliche Durchsage des Kapit\u00e4ns, mit einer guten Nachricht f\u00fcr den Tag: wir d\u00fcrfen auf eigene Faust auf die Insel. Also sind Torben und ich los und haben dann die Truppen gesehen, die auf die gebuchten Ausfl\u00fcge sind:<\/p>\n\n\n\n On the 19th we had had a note at our door: The trip we had booked for Bonaire for the morning had been postponed to the afternoon. \u2013 Well, that won\u2019t work, because for the afternoon we already have something else planned! Oh well, and then this morning at eight, there was the usual morning address by the captain, with good news for the day: we are allowed to take individual trips on the island. So Torben and I got going and then saw the groups that went on the booked tours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Mag ja sein, dass wir die hier kennen …<\/p>\n\n\n\n Might even be that we know those here \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n Wir haben brav gewunken \u2026 andere haben gesungen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We nicely waved … others sang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Torben und ich sind dann ein bisschen in der N\u00e4he des Hafens herumgelaufen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Torben and I then walked around a bit in the proximity of the harbour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Und wir haben einfach mal geschaut, was es da so zu sehen gibt …<\/p>\n\n\n\n And we simply took a look at what there was to see \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n Zweibeiner, Vierbeiner, …<\/p>\n\n\n\n Dipeds, quadrupeds, …<\/p>\n\n\n\n … oder auch sechs, \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n or also six, \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n … Vielbl\u00fctler gabs auch 😊<\/p>\n\n\n\n … multiflowereds there were as well 😊 <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2026 und nat\u00fcrlich etwas Kunst!<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2026 and of course some art!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Dann haben wir uns auch ein paar Geb\u00e4ude angesehen \u2013 von au\u00dfen. Da gab es eine Menge in diesem hellen Gelb. Kirchen, Monumente, ein Fort … Hier seht Ihr zum Beispiel das Regierungsgeb\u00e4ude, das 1837 gebaut wurde, als Unterkunft und B\u00fcro des Kommandanten. (Davor lebte er im Fort.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n Then we also looked at a few buildings \u2013 from the outside. There were quite a few in this bright yellow colour. Churches, monuments, a fort \u2026 Here for example you see the government building, which had been erected 1837, as the commander\u2019s home and office. (Before that, he lived in the fort.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n Nein, hier ist uns kein falsches Bild reingerutscht … und wir sind auch in keiner Kirche.<\/p>\n\n\n\n No, it is not as if the wrong picture slipped in here \u2026 and we are also not in a church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2026 das war die Deckenbemalung in einem kleinen Flur zwischen Gesch\u00e4ften!<\/p>\n\n\n\n … this was the painted ceiling of a little corridor between shops!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ein St\u00fcck weiter haben wir die n\u00e4chste Malerei entdeckt … die gibt einen Vorgeschmack auf den Nachmittagsausflug!<\/p>\n\n\n\n A bit further on we discovered the next painting \u2026 that one gives you a first taste of our afternoon excursion!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jetzt mal ein Blick die Hauptstra\u00dfe entlang. Sch\u00f6n bunt ist es hier!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Now a look down the main street. It is quite colourful here!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Torben und ich haben dann im Restaurant \u201eEl Mundo\u201c etwas gegessen \u2013 das h\u00f6rt sich so unspektakul\u00e4r an, aber es war tats\u00e4chlich das einzige Mal, dass wir eine Mahlzeit auf einer der Inseln zu uns genommen haben!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Torben and I then had something to eat in the restaurant \u201cEl Mundo\u201d \u2013 which sounds so very unspectacular, but it was indeed the only time that we had a meal on one of the islands!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Nach ein bisschen Pause an Bord (ja, wir haben auch ein Nickerchen gehalten) war es schon Zeit f\u00fcr den Nachmittags-Ausflug. Den hatte Dietmar f\u00fcr uns alle gebucht … und wie man sieht, freut er sich schon riesig.<\/p>\n\n\n\n After a bit of a break on board of the ship (yes, we also had a short nap) it was already time for our afternoon excursion. That one Dietmar had booked for the whole group \u2026 and as you can see, he is very much looking forward to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Nach ein bisschen Warten kam unser Guide Trevor. Augenzwinkernd meinte er, dass die Tour mit 15:30 sehr sp\u00e4t angesetzt sei, aber das ist das Problem von AIDA … die werden nicht abfahren bevor wir nicht wieder da sind. 😊<\/p>\n\n\n\n After a bit of waiting our guide Trevor arrived. With a twinkle in his eye he told us that the tour is planned for a rather late time, with 3:30 pm, but that is AIDA\u2019s problem \u2026 they will not leave before we are back on board. 😊<\/p>\n\n\n\n Erst mussten wir ein St\u00fcckchen fahren. Die Landschaft wirkte immer w\u00fcstenartiger, mit vielen Kakteen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n First we had to drive for a bit. The landscape seemed more and more desert-like, with lots of cacti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Da alles so karg ist, d\u00fcrfen die Fr\u00fcchte der Kakteen (die wohl sehr lecker schmecken), nicht gepfl\u00fcckt werden \u2013 sie geh\u00f6ren alleine den V\u00f6geln, die sonst wenig anderes Futter finden w\u00fcrden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Since all is so arid, it is forbidden to pick the fruit of the cacti (and it seems they taste really well) \u2013 those are all for the birds who otherwise would find very little to feed on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Und interessanterweise werden die Kakteen als Z\u00e4une genutzt!<\/p>\n\n\n\n And an interesting fact: the cacti are used as fences!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Nach ungef\u00e4hr 15 Minuten kamen wir dann an einem Gebiet vorbei, das den Flamingos vorbehalten ist. Wie Trevor uns erz\u00e4hlte (er war ein toller Guide, er hat uns soviel gezeigt und erz\u00e4hlt \u2013 und alles immer in dieser Grundstimmung positiver Entspannung), darf hier niemand ins Wasser, kein Fischer, keine Tourboote, niemand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n After about 15 minutes we then passed an area that belongs exclusively to the flamingos. As Trevor explained (he was a great guide, told and showed us so much \u2013 and all of that in this constant atmosphere of positive relaxation), nobody is allowed into the water here, no fishermen, no tour boats, nobody.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Aber das hei\u00dft nat\u00fcrlich nicht, dass nur weil wir die Flamingos nicht st\u00f6ren sollen, sie nicht uns „st\u00f6ren“ d\u00fcrfen 😊<\/p>\n\n\n\n But of course that does not mean that because we are not allowed to bother them, they may not „bother“ us 😊<\/p>\n\n\n\n Aus dem Auto haben wir ganz viele sehen k\u00f6nnen, Trevor ist auch extra nicht so schnell gefahren …<\/p>\n\n\n\n Out of the moving car we could see many of them. Trevor made sure that he did not drive too fast \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u00dcberhaupt wird Naturschutz auf Bonaire sehr wichtig genommen: Auf der vorgelagerten Insel Klein Bonaire wurde zum Beispiel verhindert, dass ein Hotel gebaut wurde. Die Insel ist ein Eldorado f\u00fcr Taucher, aber auch ein Naturschutzgebiet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In general, nature conservation has a significant weight on Bonaire: On the island just off the main one, Little Bonaire, fore example, they prevented that a hotel was built. The island is an Eldorado for divers, but also a nature reserve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Nach ungef\u00e4hr 20 Minuten oder so waren wir da und haben uns f\u00fcr die Bootsfahrt vorbereitet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n After about 20 minutes or so, we had reached our destination and then prepared ourselves for the boat ride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ganz nebenbei konnten wir jetzt Flamingos ganz in Ruhe beobachten und nicht aus dem fahrenden Auto heraus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And on the side we now had the chance to observe flamingos at our leisure, and not out of a moving car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Doch dann gings auch schon in unser Elektro-Motorboot. Das war klein und wacklig, wir acht plus Trevor hatten gerade mal so Platz. (Und erst hinterher ist mir aufgefallen, dass ich zwischen Flamingos und Mangroven ganz vergessen hatte, auch mal ein Foto von unserem Boot zu machen 😊)<\/p>\n\n\n\n But then it was already time to get into our electrically powered boat. It was small and not too stable, the eight of us plus Trevor barely fit in. (And only afterwards did I realize that between flamingos and mangroves I had totally forgotten to also take one little picture of our boat 😊)<\/p>\n\n\n\n Aber auf diese Weise kamen wir auch durch die eher engen Kan\u00e4le zwischen den Mangroven. \u2013 Eine tolle Fahrt! Trevor hat uns eine Menge erz\u00e4hlt, ansonsten war alles so herrlich ruhig (inklusive unser Boot), und wir haben einfach nur die tollen Aussichten genossen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But this way we also managed to get through the rather narrow channels between the mangroves. \u2013 A great tour! Trevor told us lots, but for the rest everything was so wonderfully quiet (including our boat), and we simply enjoyed the gorgeous views.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Wie man sieht, haben wir \u00fcberall hingeschaut …<\/p>\n\n\n\n As you can see, we looked everywhere … <\/p>\n\n\n\n Im Vorbeigleiten haben wir einen Gr\u00fcnreiher entdeckt \u2013 auch wenn er ganz blau aussieht.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In gliding past, we spotted a green heron \u2013 even if it looks rather blue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Hier wird auch viel \u00fcber die Mangroven geforscht. Die bunten Markierungen geben dann Auskunft \u00fcber das Wachstum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n There is also a lot of research going on here. The coloured markings then provide information about growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Auch Federn \u2013 besonders als Kopfschmuck \u2013 wachsen hier ganz wunderbar!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Feathers \u2013 especially as a headdress \u2013 also grow here phenomenally!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Wir haben viel \u00fcber die Mangroven hier gelernt … Die verschiedenen Arten, wie wei\u00dfe, rote und schwarze Mangroven, oder dass hier immer Bl\u00fcten und neue Triebe sprie\u00dfen, weil es keine wirklichen Jahreszeiten gibt, zum Beispiel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We learned much about the mangroves here \u2026 The different species, like white, red and black mangroves, or that they are always blooming and growing, since here there are no real seasons, for example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Und auch andere spannende Einzelheiten: Leider kein tolles Foto, aber zu interessant, um es nicht zu erw\u00e4hnen: Eine Mangrovenqualle. Die liegt auf dem R\u00fccken! In den Tentakeln leben kleine Algen, die die Qualle mit Nahrung versorgen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And also other interesting tidbits: Unfortunately no great picture, but too interesting to not mention it: An upside-down jellyfish. It lies on its back! In its tentacles, algae live, which provide the jellyfish with nutrition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Manchmal sind wir auf gr\u00f6\u00dferen Wasserfl\u00e4chen unterwegs, dann gleiten wir wieder in engere Rinnen und Tunnel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sometimes we travel on larger expanses of water, then again we glide along more narrow channels and tunnels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Und in einem von denen haben wir dann eine Krabbe auf den Mangroven-Wurzeln gesehen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And in one of those we then saw a crab on the roots of the mangroves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n An einer sehr offenen Stelle hat uns Trevor auf zwei Prachtfregattv\u00f6gel hingewiesen. Auf die sind wir lange zugefahren und konnten sie sch\u00f6n beobachten. Das m\u00fcssten zwei Weibchen gewesen sein, die M\u00e4nnchen haben eine rote Brust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In a quite open area, Trevor pointed out two magnificent frigatebirds to us. We glided towards them for a long time and thus could watch them nicely. It must have been two females, the males have a red chest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Eine Stunde lang hatten wir die Mangroven in aller Ruhe genie\u00dfen k\u00f6nnen \u2013 doch auch die sch\u00f6nste Fahrt geht einmal zu Ende. Damit wir nicht zu entt\u00e4uscht sind, gibt es gleich wieder etwas zu sehen, oder jemanden:<\/p>\n\n\n\n For one hour we had the opportunity to peacefully enjoy the mangroves \u2013 but even the most wonderful tour must come to an end. To make sure we are not too disappointed, there is right away something to see, or somebody:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Und hier sieht das aus nach dem Schrei \u201eAaaah, da sind sie schon wieder!\u201c \u2013 Auf der Insel gibt es viele wilde Esel. (Im 17. Jahrhundert hatten die Spanier Esel als Arbeitstiere mitgebracht \u2013 ca. 400 wilde Esel gibt es aktuell noch auf der Insel.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n And here it looks like somebody is shouting \u201cAaargh, they are back already!\u201d \u2013 On the island there are a lot of wild donkeys. (In the 17th<\/sup> century, the Spanish brought donkeys along as working animals \u2013 currently there are still about 400 wild donkeys on the island.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n Zur\u00fcck zu profaneren Dingen: F\u00fc\u00dfe sauber machen, Schuhe anziehen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Back to more profane matters: Cleaning of feet, putting on of shoes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Zu trinken gab es auch noch etwas. Nicht zu glauben: WeserGold! F\u00fcr die Bremer genau richtig …<\/p>\n\n\n\n We also got something to drink. Unbelievable: WeserGold! Just perfect for the Bremenites \u2026 (Weser is the river that runs through the city)<\/p>\n\n\n\n Und w\u00e4hrend wir versorgt werden, kann ich eine Entendame mit ihren Jungen beobachten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And while we are taken care of, I can observe a duck lady with her young. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Aber dann m\u00fcssen wir uns wirklich wieder auf den R\u00fcckweg machen … 17:15 ist es schon 😊 Und die AIDA will alle um 17:30 wieder an Bord haben! \u2013 Trevor hat sich aber nicht hetzen lassen. Hier hat er extra angehalten und das Fenster runtergelassen, damit ich noch ein paar letzte Fotos machen konnte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But then we really have to get started on our return trip \u2026 it is already 5:15 pm 😊 And the AIDA wants to have us all back on board by 5:30 pm! \u2013 But Trevor refused to be rushed.
