And a bit later you see: there are even two already!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Und da hinten links in der Ecke, da werden wir jetzt r\u00fcckw\u00e4rts einparken!<\/p>\n\n\n\n And that corner on the far left, that is what we will back into now!<\/p>\n\n\n\n An dem Schiff, das da lag, vorbei und dann haben wir uns zentimeterweise vorgearbeitet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n So past the ship that moored there and then we worked our way forward centimeter by centimeter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Das war schon beeindruckend!<\/p>\n\n\n\n That was quite impressive!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Und dann ging da unten der Papierkram los …<\/p>\n\n\n\n And then down there they got started on the paperwork \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n Eine Viertelstunde waren sie besch\u00e4ftigt. Leute kamen und gingen … und irgendwann war wohl alles gekl\u00e4rt, da war es dann kurz nach sieben.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For a quarter of an hour they were busy. People came and left \u2026 and then finally they had everything settled, it seems, by then it was shortly past seven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Wir genie\u00dfen dann noch einmal alle kleinen Annehmlichkeiten in unserer Kabine, so wie diese nette Sitzecke mit dem Hocker \/ Tisch \/ Tablett davor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meanwhile we enjoy all those little amenities that our cabin has to offer, like this nice corner seat with the stool \/ table \/ tray in front of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Dann hatten auch wir noch Papierkram. Man kann alle Leute aus dem AIDA-Team hier loben und jede Woche wird ein \u201eMitarbeiter der Woche\u201c gek\u00fcrt. \u2013 Wir haben keine Person herausgepickt sondern angemerkt, dass die Leute, die in der Gastronomie und Reinigung arbeiten, super freundlich sind, w\u00e4hrend Mitarbeiter der Reiseplanung und \u00e4hnlichem durchaus anders gepolt sind …<\/p>\n\n\n\n Then we also had some paperwork to do. Here you can praise people of the AIDA team, and every week they nominate an \u201cemployee of the week\u201d. \u2013 We did not pick out any single person but instead remarked that those people who work in the gastronomy and do the cleaning, are super friendly, while those employed in the travel planning and such things have quite a different attitude \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n Aber viel Zeit haben wir f\u00fcr all das nicht. Hier ist es jetzt 8:15 und wir sind dabei, unsere Koffer zu finden. Letzte Nacht mussten wir die fertig gepackt bis sp\u00e4testens 2 Uhr morgens in den Gang stellen, mit farbigem Band dran. Das zeigt, ob jemand noch einen Ausflug macht oder nicht.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But we do not have much time for all that. Here it is 8:15 am now and we are busy finding our suitcases. Last night we had to have them packed and ready by two in the morning and then you had to leave them in the hallway, with a coloured tag attached. That shows whether somebody will do a last excursion or not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Denn wir m\u00fcssen vor unserem gebuchten Ausflug all das durchlaufen, was man normalerweise am Flughafen macht: Koffer aufgeben, Papiere pr\u00fcfen lassen, Boarding Pass kriegen. \u2013 Ja wo sind denn nur unsere Unterlagen???<\/p>\n\n\n\n Because before we go on our booked trip we have to go through all the stuff that you normally do at the airport: drop off your suitcase, have your papers checked, get a boarding pass. \u2013 Well, where are our papers now???<\/p>\n\n\n\n Auf dem Bild gerade eben war es 8:25. Unsere Tour soll um 8:30 starten … Aber wir haben unseren Bus noch erwischt. Sonst h\u00e4tten wir halt dieses UFO nehmen m\u00fcssen 😊<\/p>\n\n\n\n On the picture just now, it was 8:25 am. Our tour is to start at 8:30 \u2026 But we did manage to catch our bus. If not we might have just taken this UFO 😊<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ca. eine Stunde lang sind wir gefahren. Und lange hatten wir zu unserer Linken einen sch\u00f6nen Regenbogen. \u2013 Heute morgen hat es schon geregnet, der Wetterbericht warnt vor viel Regen … also haben die meisten im Bus Regenjacken an. Wir nicht …<\/p>\n\n\n\n We traveled for about an hour. And for a long time we had a gorgeous rainbow on our left. \u2013 This morning it had rained already, the weather forecast predicts much rain \u2026 so most people on the bus wear rain jackets. We don\u2019t \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n Viel wichtiger: Wir kriegen jetzt unsere Tickets! \u2013 Die anderen drei haben f\u00fcr heute keinen Ausflug mehr gebucht, weil das nat\u00fcrlich doch ein wenig Zeitdruck beinhaltet. Aber Kirsche musste diesen Ausflug einfach machen …<\/p>\n\n\n\n Much more important: We now get our tickets! \u2013 The other three have not booked any last excursion for today, because that does cause a bit of time pressure, of course. But Kirsche just had to do this trip \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n Denn wir fahren mit einer Museums-Schmalspurbahn!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Because we will ride on a museum narrow-gauge railway!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Doch wir fahren erst um zehn. Bis dahin d\u00fcrfen wir uns noch ein wenig umsehen. Ich werde dieses lebendige Gr\u00fcn \u00fcberall vermissen!<\/p>\n\n\n\n But we will not leave until ten. Until then we are allowed to look around a bit. I will certainly miss this lively green everywhere!<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u00dcbrigens, von wegen Regen: Torben und ich hatten Gl\u00fcck, immer, wenn wir drau\u00dfen waren, hat es nicht geregnet 😊<\/p>\n\n\n\n Back to the topic of the rain: Torben and I were so lucky, whenever we were outside, it did nto rain 😊<\/p>\n\n\n\n Naja, und dann durften wir endlich in den Zug. Die Fahrt alleine ist nat\u00fcrlich schon toll, aber es gibt noch ein Highlight! Also bin ich vorbereitet als unser Guide sagt, er brauche drei Freiwillige. Er hat den Satz gar nicht fertig gekriegt, da war mein Arm schon oben …<\/p>\n\n\n\n Well, and then we got to go onto the train. Of course the ride itself is great already, but there will be another highlight! So I am well prepared as our guide says, he needs three volunteers. He did not even manage to finish the sentence, when my arm was up already \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n Aber jetzt gehts erst einmal los.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But now we start our ride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Eine gewundene Strecke, vorbei an einem kleinen See ..<\/p>\n\n\n\n A winding route, past a little lake \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2026 dann bei der St Nicholas Abbey vorbei (die werden wir sp\u00e4ter noch besuchen).<\/p>\n\n\n\n … then we pass the St Nicholas Abbey (which we will visit later on).<\/p>\n\n\n\n Aber erst d\u00fcrfen wir ein wenig die Fahrt genie\u00dfen! Bevor wir dann das Ende der Strecke an der Cherry Tree Hill Station erreichen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But first we get to enjoy the ride for a bit! Before we then reach the end of the line at the Cherry Tree Hill Station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ich w\u00fcrde Euch ja gern ein bisschen was fotografieren, aber ich werde gerufen, jetzt ist der Einsatz der Freiwilligen …<\/p>\n\n\n\n I would like to take some pictures for you, but I get called, now it is time for the volunteers to do their job \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n … denn wir d\u00fcrfen die Lok auf ihrer Drehscheibe in Position bringen, so wie auch die Herren hier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n … because we get to push the locomotive into position on its turntable, just like the gentlemen here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Dann f\u00e4hrt die Lok an den Waggons vorbei bis \u00fcber eine Weiche, die wird umgestellt, dann f\u00e4hrt die Lok r\u00fcckw\u00e4rts and wird angekoppelt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Then the locomotive drives past the waggons and over a rail switch, which then gets moved to the other position, then the engine drives backwards and is next hooked up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Wir genie\u00dfen noch den Ausblick auf die K\u00fcste …<\/p>\n\n\n\n We enjoy the look across the coast \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2026 dann ist Fototermin: Einer der Fahrer knippst geduldig all die Touristen. Ich hab mich auch angestellt, aber nur um die Lok genauer zu inspizieren. Der Fahrer hat mich angegrinst: Ist ja kein Grund, nicht auch ein sch\u00f6nes Foto zu machen! Stimmt eigentlich … TORBEN, komm her!!! 😊<\/p>\n\n\n\n … next comes the photo session. One of the drivers patiently takes shots of all the tourists. I also stood in line, but only to be able to take a closer look at the engine. The driver grinned at me: That is no reason to not also take a pretty picture! He is right of course \u2026 TORBEN, come here!!! 😊<\/p>\n\n\n\n Und dann hab ich eine Privatvorf\u00fchrung gekriegt: Erst einmal das Feuer versorgen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And then I got a private show: First of all tending the fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Als n\u00e4chstes dann: Hier wird Dampf abgelassen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Then next: Here steam is let off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Schlie\u00dflich hat der Fahrer mir gezeigt, wo ich vorne auf die Gleise laufen kann, damit ich all die Pracht von da sehen kann.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Finally the driver showed me where I can run onto the tracks in front, so that I can see all this glory from there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Was bin ich froh, dass wir diesen Ausflug gebucht haben!!! Auch wenn man dabei dreckige Knie kriegt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Am I ever happy that we did book this excursion!!! Even if that means you get dirty knees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Danke!!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Thanks!!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u00dcbrigens: die Dampflok kommt urspr\u00fcnglich aus der Stadt Kirchen in Deutschland, nahe K\u00f6ln. Dort wurde 1883 die Firma Jung & Staimer gegr\u00fcndet, die sp\u00e4ter mehrfach umbenannt wurde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n By the way: the engine came originally from the town of Kirchen in Germany, near Cologne. There the company Jung & Staimer was founded in 1883, which was later renamed several times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Dann sind wir wieder zur\u00fcck zur St Nicholas Abbey gefahren und dort ausgestiegen. Dies war das Herrenhaus einer Zuckerplantage, erbaut zwischen 1650 und 1660.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Then we rode back to the St Nicholas Abbey and got out of the train there. This was the manor house of a sugar plantation, built between 1650 and 1660.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Zuerst wurden wir durch das Haus selber gef\u00fchrt. Und dabei sind Torben und ich dann irgendwann die letzten und ganz alleine gewesen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n First we were lead through the house itself. And during that tour Torben and I then ended up being the last and all alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Aber wir wussten ja, dass auch eine Rumverkostung enthalten sein sollte. Also sind wir los und haben unsere Gruppe gesucht. Gefunden haben wir noch ein paar Leute beim Rum. Also haben wir uns dazugesellt und ein sehr nettes Gespr\u00e4ch mit Simon gef\u00fchrt, der uns nicht nur den Standard-Rum sondern noch einen weiteren probieren hat lassen. (Wir h\u00e4tten gerne eine Flasche mitgenommen, aber unsere Koffer sind ja schon aufgegeben …)<\/p>\n\n\n\n But we did know that there was also a rum tasting planned. So we marched on and looked for our group. We did find a very few people where the rum was. So we joined them and had a very nice talk with Simon who not only let us taste the usual rum but also another one. (We would have loved to take a bottle with us, but our suitcases were already dropped off \u2026)<\/p>\n\n\n\n Irgendwann haben wir gemerkt, unsere Gruppe war das gar nicht! Also sind wir los … wo sind die denn?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Finally we did realize, that was not at all our group! So we rushed off \u2026 where are they?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Wir sind zur\u00fcck zum Bahnhof gehastet \u2013 aber da stand unser Bus noch, und der Fahrer meinte: wir fahren nicht vor zw\u00f6lf (also in fast einer Stunde). Wir: schaffen wir es dann bis 12:30 zur\u00fcck zum Schiff, wie geplant? N\u00f6 😊 \u2013 Naja, aber immerhin haben wir jetzt noch Zeit, uns umzusehen …<\/p>\n\n\n\n We hastily went back to the train station \u2013 but our bus was still there, and the driver just said: we will not leave before noon (so in almost an hour). Us: will we then make it back to the ship by 12:30 as planned? Nyah 😊 \u2013 Okay, at least that gives us some time to look around a bit more \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n Die F\u00fchrung durch die Destille haben wir jetzt verpasst …<\/p>\n\n\n\n The guided tour of the distillery we have now missed \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2026 aber daf\u00fcr haben wir jetzt alles ganz f\u00fcr uns. Wir haben uns die voll funktionsf\u00e4hige Dampfm\u00fchle ausgiebig angesehen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n … but instead we now have it all to ourselves. We took our time looking at the fully functional steam mill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Die Herren hier m\u00fcssen ganz sch\u00f6n schuften. Das Zuckerrohr wird in der M\u00fchle zerdr\u00fcckt, um den Saft herauszupressen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The gentlemen here have to work quite hard. The sugar cane gets crushed in the mill to extract the juice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Und danach findet die Destillation in \u201eAnnabelle\u201c statt, die seht Ihr hier:<\/p>\n\n\n\n And afterwards the distillation takes place in \u201cAnnabelle\u201d, which you see here:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Wie die Lokomotive ist auch sie eine deutsche Dame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Like the locomotive, she is also a German lady.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Aber wir m\u00fcssen uns auch von dieser Sch\u00f6nheit jetzt losrei\u00dfen und auf den Weg zur\u00fcck zum Bus machen. Und es gibt auch drau\u00dfen viel zu sehen. Sowohl oben in den B\u00e4umen …<\/p>\n\n\n\n But we have to tear ourselves away from this beauty and start getting back to our bus. And then there is also much to see outside. Both up in the trees \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n … als auch unten am Boden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n … and down on the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Naja, wir sind dann zum Bus … und noch immer ist niemand da! Also haben wir uns leckere Snacks gekauft (das Curry war der Hammer!) \u2013 doch kaum stehen wir drau\u00dfen gem\u00fctlich beim Essen, sind auf einmal alle abfahrbereit … na gut!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Oh well, we then went back to the bus \u2026 and still nobody is there! So we bought some tasty snacks (the curry was wicked!) \u2013 but no sooner do we stand outside, leisurely eating, when all of a sudden everybody is there and ready to go \u2026 fine!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Wir sind an der \u00e4ltesten M\u00fchle der Insel vorbeigefahren …<\/p>\n\n\n\n We passed the oldes mill on the island \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2026 und die schmucke Adresse, an der Rihanna wohnt, wenn sie zu Hause auf Barbados ist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n … and the fancy address, where Rihanna resides when she is at home on Barbados.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Naja, um 13:00 Uhr waren wir dann wieder auf dem Schiff, wo in der Disko \u201eGep\u00e4cklager\u201c war. Man musste ja um neun Uhr aus den Kabinen raus sein … Hier treffen wir jetzt den Rest der Family wieder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Oh well, at one pm we were then back on the ship, where in the discotheque the \u201cluggage storage\u201d took place. After all everybody had to be out of the cabins by nine \u2026 Here we now meet up with the rest of the family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Machen wir es kurz \u2026 irgendwann gings in den Bus, dann zum Flughafen.
