Bei unserer Ankunft haben wir ja gleich festgestellt, dass wir uns den monumental-riesig-bombastischen Hauptbahnhof genauer ansehen m\u00fcssen. Das Empfangsgeb\u00e4ude hat eine Breite von 200 Metern und eine H\u00f6he von 72 Metern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As I mentioned earlier: at our arrival already we had decided that we have to take a closer look at the monumental-huge-bombastic central station. The station building has a width of 200 meters and a height of 72 meters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1931 wurde er offiziell eingeweiht. Urspr\u00fcnglich war ein sehr viel einfacherer Bau geplant. Es wurde jedoch mit der Zeit immer komplexer und monumentaler, vor allem als Benito Mussolini Premierminister wurde. Ein paar Details von au\u00dfen (es gibt viele Adler, L\u00f6wen, Pferde):<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1931 it was officially inaugurated. Originally, a much simpler structure had been planned. But as time went by, the plans got ever more complex and monumental, especially when Beniot Mussolini became prime minister. An den W\u00e4nden hoch oben etliche Bilder, die aussehen, als w\u00e4ren sie aus Kacheln zusammengesetzt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Und beim Hauptzugang zu den Gleisen sind auch welche an der Wand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jetzt zu einer Ausstellung \u201eunter\u201c dem Bahnhof: Memoriale della Shoah. Am Eingang begr\u00fc\u00dft uns das Wort \u201eGleichg\u00fcltigkeit\u201c.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now to an exhibition \u201ebelow\u201d the station: Memoriale della Shoah. At the entrance we are greeted by the word \u201cindifference\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Am Gleis 21, damals Gleis 1, gab es im Keller eine Postverladestation. Zwischen 1943 und 1945 wurde die Technik hier genutzt, um Juden in Konzentrationslager zu deportieren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At platform 21, back the platform 1, there was a station for postal services. Between 1943 and 1945 the technology here was used to deport Jews to concentration camps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Man kann Waggons wie die damals genutzen sehen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can see wagons like the ones used back then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die Wagen konnten mit einem Fahrstuhl auf die Ebene der \u201enormalen\u201c Gleise gehoben werden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the use of an elevator, the carriages could be lifted up to the level of the \u201cnormal\u201d tracks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Der Abschnitt vor dem Fahrstuhl kann seitlich hin- und herfahren und auf diese Weise Wagen von unterschiedlichen Gleisen aufnehmen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The part before the elevator can laterally be moved back and forth, and that way it can take up waggons from differing tracks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00dcberlebende haben berichtet, dass sie damals keine Ahnung hatten, dass sie mit einer Art Fahrstuhl fuhren. Man kann in der Ausstellung einige kurze Videos ansehen. Au\u00dferdem gibt es auch eine \u2013 italienische \u2013 Pr\u00e4sentation mit Fotos und Schriftst\u00fccken. Hier geht es um das Gesetz zum \u201eSchutz der italienischen Rasse\u201c vom 17. November 1938, mit dem Juden umfangreichen Verboten unterworfen wurden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Survivors reported that back then they had had no idea that they were riding a kind of elevator. In the exhibition you can watch a few short videos. Furthermore there is also an \u2013 Italian \u2013 display of photos and documents. This here is about the law for the \u201cprotection of the Italian race\u201d from 17. November 1938, which subjected Jews to extensive limitations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In mehreren Videos wird klar, dass die \u201eGleichg\u00fcltigkeit\u201c, mit der den Opfern des Faschismus begegnet wurde, elementar darin war, dass das ganze System funktioniert hat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

… und in der Nacht wurden wir dann von lautem Krach geweckt: Blitz und Donner, prasselnder Regen und gro\u00dfe Hagelk\u00f6rner. In den Nachrichten wurden die umfangreichen Sch\u00e4den, die der Sturm in Mailand verursacht hatte, erw\u00e4hnt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
