Heute wird es f\u00fcr den ganzen Tag nur ein Thema geben: Die j\u00e4hrliche Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque started heute. Oh, und \u201ef\u00fcr den ganzen Tag\u201c hei\u00dft, wir sind um vier aufgestanden! Denn um 5:45 gehts los, und unsere Unterkunft ist 10 Minuten enfernt …<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today will have just one big theme for the whole day: The annual Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque will start today. Oh, and \u201cfor the whole day\u201d means, we got up at four! Because the thing will start at 5:45 and our lodging is ten minutes away \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Wir wussten, es w\u00fcrde viel Verkehr geben, weil alle zum gleichen Ort wollen … da waren Schulbusse als Shuttles unterwegs, viel Polizei \u00fcberall, die uns dann auch glatt vom n\u00e4heren Parkplatz zu dem oben im Norden geleitet haben … und dann standen wir auf dem Highway Ewigkeiten und haben nur das Ende der \u201eDrone Show\u201c aus dem Auto gesehen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We knew there would be much traffic, because they all want to get to the same spot \u2026 there were school busses functioning as shuttles, lots of police all over, who then did wave us on from the closer parking lot to the one farther up North \u2026 and then we stood on the highway for ages and could only see the end of the \u201cdrone show\u201d from the car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Um 7:45 waren wir endlich am Parkplatz … dann mussten wir im Dunklen noch ein St\u00fcck laufen und konnten die \u201eDawn Patrol\u201c schon von weitem sehen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At 7:45 we had finally reached the parking lot \u2026 and then we had to walk a fair bit in the dark and could see the \u201cDawn Patrol\u201d from afar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Diese \u201cMorgenparade\u201d war sehr sch\u00f6n anzusehen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This \u201emorning parade\u201c was very nice to watch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nat\u00fcrlich sieht man die Ballons so fr\u00fch morgens am besten, wenn sie die Brenner feuern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Naturally, this early in the morning you see the balloons best when they are blasting the burners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Einfach toll!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just great!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hier und da werden die Brenner getestet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here and there the burners are getting tested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Allm\u00e4hlich wird es auch heller … Am Boden werden die n\u00e4chsten fertig gemacht.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And slowly it is getting light \u2026 On the ground the next batch is getting ready.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Und die, die dann kommen, liegen schon am Boden ausgebreitet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the ones to come after that are already laid out flat on the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Denn sp\u00e4ter sollen alle gleichzeitig in der Luft sein.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For later on all of them shall be in the air at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, der Ballon neben uns ist jetzt dran. Es ist toll, dass man direkt daneben stehen darf!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Okay, the balloon next to us will be next. It is great that you are allowed to stand right nearby!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Es geht los, die Fiesta-Ballons steigen als erstes auf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And now it begins, the Fiesta balloons rise first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dann kamen ein paar Kunstflieger …<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then a few stunt pilots flew over us \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

\u2026 w\u00e4hrend der Ballon neben uns gef\u00fcllt wird.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

… while the balloon next to us is getting filled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

N\u00e4her dran geht nicht!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You cannot get any closer!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Und dann sind immer mehr aufgestiegen …<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And then more and more went up \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Und ja, es war bitterkalt, aber einfach atemberaubend!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And yes, it was very cold, but simply breathtaking!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dann kamen mehr und mehr fig\u00fcrliche Ballons \u2013 wird das ein halbes H\u00e4hnchen?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then there were more and more balloons with special shapes \u2013 will that be half a chicken?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dabei wird es auch mal eng.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It does get a bit tight here and there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Das H\u00e4hnchen ist ein Faultier!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The chicken is a sloth!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Wir haben die wildesten Figuren gesehen!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We saw the craziest shapes!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Jede Menge Tiere gab es, Hunde, ein Schweinchen, eine Kuh und auch Elefanten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lots of animals were to be seen, dogs, a piglet, a cow and also elephants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Und so viele Pinguine!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And so many penguins!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Aber es gab auch bei den \u201eeinfachen\u201c Ballons unterschiedliche Formen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But also with the \u201esimple\u201d balloons you have different shapes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ja, wir hatten Spa\u00df!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yes, we had fun!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Man kann nicht alle auf ein Bild kriegen. Aber die Windverh\u00e4ltnisse sind hier so, dass die Ballons nicht abgetrieben wurden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You cannot get them all onto one photo. But the wind conditions here are so that the balloons did not drift away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aber wie immer gibt es Leute, denen es so viel wichtiger ist, von sich selber gute Bilder zu kriegen. Der Aufwand, der da betrieben wird!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But as always, there are people who are much more concerned about getting good pictures of themselves. The lengths they go to!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Es gab auch einen kleinen Zeppelin …<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was a small zeppelin around as well \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Als die Ballons alle wieder am Boden waren, hat die berittene Polizei ein St\u00fcck Land von Leuten \u201efrei gemacht\u201c.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the balloons were all back on the ground, the police mounted \u201ccleared\u201d a piece of land of people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Denn jetzt kamen vier Helikopter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because now four helicopters landed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Milit\u00e4r und auch Polizei.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Military and also police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Da gab es dann nat\u00fcrlich viel Andrang … aber es gab ja noch andere Flieger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was quite a rush of course … but there were also other flyers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wir machen jetzt auch den Abflug. Es ist bald Mittag, und wir sind sehr, sehr m\u00fcde!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We will now also do a take-off. It is almost noon, and we are very, very tired!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
