Tja, unser letzter Tag in Western Australia, morgen fliegen wir weiter. Also haben wir unsere Notizen durchgesehen … Nationalparks? Koalas? Höhlen? Oder in die älteste Weinregion der Gegend? Wir haben uns dann für zwei Attraktionen entschieden, die beide nicht gar so weit weg waren: Vormittags sind wir ein Stück nach Süden gefahren, und dann mit der Fähre nach Penguin Island. Pinguine haben wir zwar nur im Discovery Center gesehen, aber dafür so viele andere Vögel!!! Möwen, Seeschwalben, Pelikane. Es flog nur so um uns herum. Und die verschiedenen Rufe, die wir gehört haben! Zwei Stunden haben wir die Insel erkundet und können nur sagen: es lohnt sich!!!
Well, our last day in Western Australia, tomorrow we will get on the next plane. So we looked through our notes … National Parks? Koalas? Caves? Or the oldest wine region in this area? Finally we decided on two sights that were both not so terribly far away: In the morning we drove South for a bit, and then we took the ferry to Penguin Island. Now we only saw penguins in the Discovery Center, but instead we saw so many other birds!!! Gulls, terns, pelicans. Birds flying all around us. And the different calls we heard! For two hours we explored the island, and we can only say: it is worth it!!!
Und nachmittags sind wir dann in die andere Richtung, ein gutes Stück nach Norden, zum AQWA. Ein Aquarium, das im Reiseführer hoch angepriesen wurde … Und wir sind an den verschiedenen Fischen vorbei und haben uns gedacht. Nett. Ja. Vor allem die kleinen Infos, die oft sehr überraschend waren und sehr flippig aufgemacht. Aber dafür haben wir die Fahrt von doch wieder einer guten Stunde gemacht? Und auf Koalas etc. (siehe oben) verzichtet? Hm. Und dann sind wir in den Ausstellungsteil „Shipwreck Coast“ gegangen: Gi-gan-tisch! Man geht im Kreis durch einen langen, langen Tunnel direkt unter Haien, Rochen und einer Schildkröte herum. Wir haben die Tour zweimal gemacht und kamen aus dem Staunen gar nicht mehr heraus. Also auch hier: Es lohnt sich!
And in the afternoon we went in the other direction, a good bit up North, to AQWA. An aquarium that the travel guide recommended highly … And we walked past the different fishes and thought. Nice. Yes. Especially all the information bits that often were very surprising, and done up very funkily. But for that we drove for another good hour? And passed up the koalas etc. (see above)? Hm. And then we went to the exhibition part „Shipwreck Coast“: Gi-gan-tic! You walk in a circle through a long, long tunnel, right below sharks, rays and a turtle. We did the tour twice and couldn’t stop gawking. So here as well: it is worth it!
