Heute haben wir wieder unsere Sachen gepackt und ziehen weiter … Das Wetter ist fantastisch, und hier haben wir kurz angehalten an der Odertalsperre, um den Ausblick zu genießen.
Today we once again packed our stuff and got on the road again … The weather is fantastic, and here we took a quick stop at the Odertalsperre, to enjoy the view.
Und hier sind wir schon an unserem Zwischenziel des Tages: Bad Lauterberg. Hier sind wir im Kurpark.

Was wollen wir da wohl? Hör ich Euch fragen. Naja, wir wollten uns ihn hier ansehen: Hermann von Wissmann.
What might we possible want there? I hear you ask? Well, we wanted to take a look at this guy: Hermann von Wissmann.
In der momentanen Debatte über Denkmäler für Menschen, denen man heute keine Monumente mehr errichten würde, habe ich über umstrittene Standbilder in Deutschland gelesen. Und da eines davon im Harz steht, hatten wir uns vorgenommen, das nächste Mal, wenn wir da sind, sehen wir uns das mal an.
In the course of the momentary debate about memorials for people for whom we would not erect any monuments these days, I read about controversial statues in Germany. And since one of them is to be found in the Harz region, we had decided to take a look the next time we would be in the area.
Wir haben nachgelesen: Ja, er hat wohl irgendwo im Osten Afrikas dafür gesorgt, dass die einheimische Bevölkerung von der arabischen Oberschicht nicht mehr versklavt wurde. – Aber warum? Generell waren die Europäer wohl bemüht, afrikanische und arabische Mittelmänner mit wirtschaftlicher Macht auszuschalten. War das der Grund? Denn es wird auch von seinen Strafexpeditionen berichtet, die ganz klar zeigen, dass Wissmann ein Kolonialist war, wie er im Buche steht.

Zu diesem Industriedenkmal gibt es zweimal im Monat Führungen. – Aber nicht heute.
For this industrial monument there are guided tours offered twice a month. – But not today.
Aber nur die Gebäude an sich fanden wir schon spannend anzusehen. Das hier war eine Hochofenanlage, Gießerei und Drahtzieherei.
But just the buildings themselves we already thought well worth a look. This was a furnace facility, foundry and a wire drawing plant.
Der Brunnen hier ist wunderschön und aus Gusseisen. Er wurde 1889 für die Weltausstellung in Paris gefertigt. (Aber es ist wohl nicht klar, ob er auch dort vorgeführt wurde.)
The fountain here is just beautiful and made of cast iron. It was constructed 1889 for the World Fair in Paris. (But it seems it is not clear whether it was also presented there.)

Dies ist ein gusseiserner Entsilberungskessel: Hier wurde silberhaltiges Blei auf 1000°C erhitzt, um das Silber mit Hilfe von Luftsauerstoff vom Blei zu trennen.
This is a cast iron „de-silvering“ cauldron: Here lead that contained silver was heated up to 1000°C, to divide the silver from the lead with the help of atmospheric oxygen.
Und auch wenn es keine Führung gab, und wir also in keines der Gebäude reinkamen, durch ein paar Fenster konnte man ja schauen:

Wir hatten uns nahe Bad Lauterberg noch eine Sehenswürdigkeit vornehmen wollen: Die Einhornhöhle. Doch wir hatten so viel Freude daran, uns hier umzusehen, dass keine Zeit mehr bleibt.
We had been planning on visiting another sight near Bad Lauterberg: The Unicorn Cave. But we had so much fun, looking around here, that we now have not enough time left.
Also geht es weiter, nach Mannheim, wo wir ein Hotelzimmer für die nächsten drei Nächte haben.
So on we went, to Mannheim, where we booked a hotel room for the next three nights.
Das Maritim ist ganz zentral gelegen, direkt gegenüber vom berühmten Wasserturm:
