Was für ein laaaaaaaaaaaanger Tag! Wir sind ja am 18. Februar früh los, für die lange Fahrt zum Flughafen, damit wir unterwegs noch hier und da anhalten konnten. – Wir haben zum Beispiel eine Stunde bei den Flughunden verbracht. – Am Flughafen haben wir dann erfahren, dass unser Flug eine Stunde Verspätung hatte, aber irgendwann gings dann doch los, kurz nach sechs Uhr abends.
What a looooooooooooooooooong day! As we mentioned before, we left early on February 18, for the long ride to the airport, and so that on the way we could stop here and there. – We did, for example, spend one hour gazing at the flying foxes. – At the airport we then found out that our flight was an hour late, but after a long wait we finally got going, a bit past 6 p.m..
Ja, und dann sind wir in den Sonnenuntergang geflogen, direkt zurück in den 18. Februar. Das ist durchaus verwirrend, keine Frage.
Yes, and then we flew into the sunset, right back into February 18. That does screw with your head, no question about it.
Wir sind dann in den frühen Morgenstunden, so um zwei herum, in Honolulu gelandet. Das Bild oben zeigt, was wir von der Stadt gesehen haben …
We then landed in Honolulu, in the early morning hours, around two a.m.. The picture above shows you what we have seen of the city …
Wir mussten ja zum Anschlussflug, sind also zum entsprechenden Gebäude mit den Inselflügen … und da war zu! Also sind wir (und andere Fluggäste) draußen auf Bänken gesessen und haben gewartet.
After all, we had to get to our next flight, so we went to the right building for the island flights … and that was closed! So we (and other passengers) sat outside on benches and waited.
Nach einer halben Stunde kam dann ein Fahrradfahrer vorbei und rief uns zu: wir machen jetzt auf!
After half an hour finally, a cyclist went by and called out to us: we will open up now!
Drinnen war aber nicht viel Hilfe – die Schalter waren alle unbesetzt, und wir mussten an den Bildschirmen, die Ihr rechts im Bild seht, alles selber machen, einchecken, für das Gepäck zahlen, die Anhänger für die Koffer anbringen … Dann haben wir die Koffer abgegeben, wollten durch die Sicherheitskontrolle … dazu mussten wir wieder nach draußen, weil die Schlange so lang war. Da war nämlich immer noch keiner da!
Inside we did not find much help though – the counters were not staffed, and we had to do everything ourselves, at the screens you see on the right: check in, pay for the luggage, tape on those luggage tags … then we dropped our suitcases off and wanted to go through security … for that we had to go back outside, because the queue was so long. For at security there was still no staff around!
Naja, irgenwann waren wir dann auf Big Island. Dort mussten wir auf unseren Mietwagen warten (immerhin konnten wir den Sonnenaufgang genießen) … riesige Pick-ups hätten wir sofort haben können. Doch mit unserem Gepäck wäre das keine tolle Lösung gewesen, und bei dem schmalen Strässchen, das zu unserem Bed and Breakfast führt, auch nicht:
Well, sometime in the morning we then arrived on Big Island. There we had to wait for our rental car (at least we got to enjoy the sunrise) … huge pick-ups we could have had right away. But with all our luggage, that would not have been a very good solution, and neither regarding the very narrow pathway that leads to our bed and breakfast:
Nach einer längeren Fahrt die Hügel rauf und runter, auf einer sehr unebenen und – wie gesagt – schmalen Straße, sind wir angekommen:
After a longer drive up and down the hills, on a very uneven and – as mentioned – narrow road, we arrived:
Das ist der Blick vom Balkon – nur leider etwas düster, mittlerweile schüttet es, donnert und blitzt.
This is the view from the balcony – unfortunately a bit dark, by now it is pouring rain, there is thunder and lightning.
Bei schönem Wetter können wir hier sitzen oder auch die Hängematte nutzen.
When the weather is fine, we will be able to sit here and also use the hammock.
Nach der Ankunft haben wir hier darauf gewartet, dass unser Zimmer frei wird, komplett mit tierischer Unterstützung:
After our arrival we sat here and waited that our room would be made ready. Oh, we had animal support:
Überhaupt sind hier viele Viecher unterwegs … auf der Straße sind Hühner im Weg …
Anyhow, there are many creatures around here … on the road the hens are in the way …
… oder auch mal ein Pferd.
… or sometimes a horse.
Was man nicht sieht, die schmale Straße ist deutlich erhöht, also konnte man nicht wirklich um das Pferd herumfahren …
What you cannot see here, the narrow road is quite a bit elevated, so we could not really drive around the horse …
Aber das Tier ist es wohl gewohnt, dass die Autos ihm ganz nahe kommen.
But it looks like the animal is used to the cars getting right up close.
Hier dann noch der Haushund, der immer sehr aufpasst, dass wir auch richtig parken.
Here the pet dog of our lodging, who always pays close attention, that we park the car correctly.
