So, wir hatten gestern ja von unserem schönen Zimmer geschwärmt, hier im Villatorro in Görlitz. Was wir nicht geprüft hatten: ob im Radiowecker vielleicht noch eine Weckzeit eingestellt war? Tja, um 1:00 nachts haben wir herausgefunden, dass JA!!!
So, we had yesterday gushed about our great room, here in the Villatorro in Görlitz. One thing that we had not checked: whether the clock radio had maybe still pre-set some alarm time? Well, at one in the morning we found out that YES!!!
Wir sind dann auch irgendwann wieder eingeschlafen … um dann vom nächsten Sirenenton geweckt zu werden.
We did eventually get back to sleep … to then be awakened by the next wailing siren.
Ja, wir standen um kurz nach sechs im Schlafanzug am Sammelpunkt vor dem Hotel. Die Feuerwehr war unheimlich schnell da … aber glücklicherweise war nur in der Küche wohl der Rauchmelder ausgelöst worden.
Yes, we were standing shortly after six in our pajamas at the collection point in front of the hotel. The fire brigade was there incredibly fast … but luckily it turned out that apparently in the kitchen they had triggered the smoke detector.
Wir durften dann irgendwann wieder ins Gebäude, haben auch noch ein bisschen zu schlafen versucht .. und dann gab es Frühstück. – Wer mal nach Görlitz will, ein sehr schönes Hotel, gut gelegen, sehr nettes Personal – und sollte es mal nötig sein, weiß man, die Feuerwehr ist fix!
We were eventually allowed back into the building, and we did try to sleep a bit more … and then we had breakfast. – For those who might want to come to Görlitz, a very nice hotel, a good location, very friendly staff – and if needed, you know that fire brigade is fast!
Dann haben wir uns noch ein bisschen die Stadt angesehen. Zuerst war da dieser einladende Park.
Then we looked around a bit more in the city. First we came across this inviting park.

Genug. Wir sind jetzt ins Zentrum der Stadt. Da wird gerade viel gebaut.
Enough. We now went to the town’s centre. Much construction going on there right now.
Der Dicke Turm oder auch Frauenturm ist 46m hoch und war mal Teil der Stadtmauer. Im unteren Teil sind die Mauern bis zu 5,34m dick!
The White Tower (Dicker Turm / Frauenturm) is 46m high and used to be part of the city wall. In the lower section the walls are up to 5.34m thick!
Leider war uns nicht klar, dass das historische Kaufhaus aktuell nicht besichtigt werden darf. Und es soll wohl wieder in seiner ursprünglichen Funktion zum Einsatz kommen, nachdem es zuletzt Filmkulisse für „Grand Budapest Hotel“ diente.
Unfortunately we were not aware that the historical department store can currently not be visited. And apparently it shall be put to use again in its original function, after last having been a backdrop for the movie “Grand Budapest Hotel”.
Wir sind einfach ein bisschen herumgeschlendert. An der schönen Fassade der alten Post vorbei.

Auch genannt „Muschelminna”. Die Bronzestatue wurde 1942 eingeschmolzen und 1967 mit einer Marmorschale ersetzt. 1993 wurde nach historischen Bildern die ursprüngliche Figur wiederhergestellt.

Der hier sieht aus als ob er auch eine Leckerei vertragen könnte. Ein Teil des Brunnens “Die Tanzende” – das letzte Werk des Dresdner Künstlers Vinzenz Wanitschke.

Nicht nur Hunde haben wir gesehen, auch Fische. „Ein Projekt des Bürgerrates Innenstadt West“, der bei verwaisten Gebäuden mit Gemälden an den verrammelten Fenstern Ideen zur Sanierung und Benutzung liefert. Hm, sollen die Fischchen einziehen?
Not just dogs did we see, also fish. “A Project of the Inner Council Inner City West” which at deserted buildings gives ideas for the renovation and future use, with paintings at the boarded up windows. Well, shall the fish move in?
