Morgens um sechs sind wir schon unterwegs ..
At six in the morning we are already up and about …

Dann gehen wir rein, durch das East Gate.
Then we go in through the East gate.
Und da ist es: Das Taj Mahal.
And there it is: The Taj Mahal.
Alles ist streng symmetrisch, hat der Guide uns erzählt. Also ist auf der einen Seite eine Moschee, auf der anderen Seite ein Gästehaus, die beide genau gleich aussehen.
All is totally symmetrical, the guide told us. So on the one side there is a mosque and on the other one a guest house, which look exactly the same.
Wir sind extra so früh aufgestanden, um das Taj Mahal bei Sonnenaufgang zu sehen, doch es ist sehr, sehr neblig … ☹
We did get up extra early, to see the Taj Mahal at sunrise, but it is extremely foggy … ☹
Die Sonne ist aufgegangen … aber viel geholfen hat das nicht.
The sun did rise … but that did not help much.
Alles ist aus dem weißen Marmor aus Jaipur, mit eingesetzten Edel- und Halbedelsteinen.
Everything is made out of the white marble from Jaipur, with inlaid precious and semiprecious stones.
Leider wurden hier und da Teile herausgebrochen.
Unfortunately, here and there people chiseled pieces out.
Wir sind einmal ums Taj Mahal herumgegangen. Der Nebel wurde immer schlimmer (hinten beim Fluss haben wir gar nichts mehr gesehen – sprich, da ist angeblich ein Fluss, aber wir standen vor einer weißen Wand).
We walked once all around the Taj Mahal. The fog got worse and worse (at the back by the river we saw nothing at all – meaning, supposedly there is a river, but we were standing in front of a white wall).
Vorne haben wir aber die Kuhreiher sehen können.
But at the front we could see the cattle egrets.
Ein bisschen hat es dann aufgeklart.
It did clear up a bit eventually.
Übrigens: die vier Minarette stehen leicht vom Hauptgebäude weg geneigt. Damit sie bei einem Erdbeben nach außen fallen würden.
By the way: the four minarets stand slightly tilted, away from the main building. So that in case of an earth quake, they would fall away from it.
Für einen Moment haben wir eine Ahnung gekriegt, wie alles funkeln muss, wenn die Sonne strahlt …
For a moment we got a bit of an idea how everything must sparkle once the sun really comes out …
Ein bisschen mehr als das.
A bit more than that.
Naja, wir haben trotzdem Sittiche gesehen.
Oh well, we saw the parakeets nonetheless.
Und Schwarzmilane …
And black kites …
Naja, viel Zeit für solche Nebensächlichkeiten hatten wir nicht, unser Guide hatte ja Programm für uns … Also hat er uns zurück zur Rikscha gebracht.
Oh well, we did not have much time for such irrelevant stuff, our guide had plans for us … So he brought us back to the rickshaw.
Nach einem kurzen Stop beim Hotel für unser Frühstück wurden wir zu einem Juwelier gebracht
After a quick stop at the hotel for our breakfast, they brought us to a jeweller.
Da wurden uns zum Beispiel Sternrubine gezeigt.
There they showed us star rubies, for example.
Danach wurden wir eine Tür weiter geführt, da wurde uns gezeigt, wie mit dem Marmor gearbeitet wird. Sehr interessant!
Afterwards they took us one door down, there we were shown how they work with the marble. Very interesting!
Aber nein, hier haben wir nichts gekauft 😊 Dann ging es zu Tüchern und Kleidern …
But no, here we did not buy anything 😊 Next we got to see scarves and dresses …
Dann wurden wir entlassen. Auf dem Weg raus aus der Stadt haben wir kurz vor dem Agra Fort Halt gemacht.
Then we were released. On our way out of town, we made a short stop in front of the Agra Fort.
Das wäre bestimmt auch einen Besuch wert … wir haben hier auch wieder Milane gesehen.
That would definitely be worth visiting … here we saw kites again.

Und das wars! Noch ein kurzer Restaurantbesuch, ein letzter Masala Chai … dann gings zum Flughafen, da hilft kein Geschrei!
And that was it! Another short visit of a restaurant, a last masala chai … then we drove to the airport, no need to cry!
Jetzt fliegen wir nach Melbourne!
