Heute morgen haben wir unsere schöne Unterkunft in Hobart verlassen und sind Richtug Port Arthur gefahren.
This morning we left our pretty lodging in Hobart and drove in the direction of Port Arthur.

Und dann: Port Arthur.
And then: Port Arthur.
Wieder ein altes Gefängnis, diesmal für Männer. Wir haben uns das „Separate Prison“ angesehen, das 1849 eröffnet wurde.
Again an old penitentiary, this time for men. We looked at the “Separate Prison” which had been opened 1849.
Von einem zentralen Platz in der Mitte gingen in drei Richtungen Korridore mit Zellen ab, in der vierten Richtung war die Kapelle.
From a central place in the middle, corridors with cells spread in three directions, in the fourth direction you had the chapel.
Da standen die Männer in diesen Boxen, jeder vom anderen getrennt. Und gesehen hat man nicht viel …
There the men stood in these boxes, each separate from the next. And you did not see a whole lot …
Nur den Priester, der hier oben gestanden hätte.
Only the priest who would have stood up here.
Die Männer durften nicht miteinander sprechen, auch in den Zellen hatte Ruhe zu herrschen.
The men were not allowed to talk to each other. In the cells as well, it had to be quiet.
Wir sind dann zu der kleinen Bootstour, die im Ticket inbegriffen war. Leider hat es geregnet.
We then went to the little boat cruise that was included in the ticket. Unfortunately it rained.
Hier draußen haben die Häftlinge Boote gebaut.
Out here the convicts built boats.
Und das ist die Toteninsel. Häftlinge wurden ohne Grabstein verscharrt, für die Aufseher und so sah das natürlich anders aus.
And this is the Isle of the Dead. Convicts were buried without a gravestone, for the wardens and such it was done differently, of course.
Das war alles sehr interessant, aber wir müssen weiter, wir haben heute noch ein Ziel:

Da hat uns die Dame an der Kasse zuerst eine tote Motte gezeigt, die sie heute gefunden hatte … und die sich als quicklebendig herausstellte 😊
There the lady at the counter first of all showed us a dead moth she had found today … and which turned out to be quite alive actually 😊
Dann sind wir aufs Gelände und haben als erstes zwei Tasmanische Teufel gesehen, die sich gejagt haben! Der eine kam dann zurück und hat mal geschaut, was wir denn für Leute sind.
Then we went out onto the grounds and the first thing we saw was two Tasmanian devils which were chasing each other! One of them then came back to look what kind of people we are.
Hm. Also, falls Ihr Ärger machen wollt …!
Well. In case you want to make trouble …!
Wir sind dann weiter zur Vogelschau. Da wird mit verschiedenen Arten Futter geschaut, wer denn vielleicht vorbeifliegen und was fressen will.
We then went on to the bird show. There with different kinds of feed, they check who might want to fly over and eat something.
Die Rosellas hatten Hunger! Die Hühnergänse waren überall unterwegs.
The rosellas were hungry! The Cape Barren geese were around everywhere.
Wie wir weitergehen, hüpft da einfach mal ein Filander herum. Auch eine Känguru-Art.
As we walk on, a pademelon simply hopped by. Also a type of kangaroo.
Das passt, wir gehen jetzt zu den Kängurus, die man füttern darf – obwohl sie nicht viel Hunger hatten.
That fits, we now go to the kangaroos that you are allowed to feed – though they were not very hungry.
Auch wenn manche für zwei essen mussten.
Even if some of them had to eat for two.
Schau mal, da ist wieder jemand mit Kamera!

Wir haben auch Prachtstaffelschwänze gesehen.
We also did see superb fairy wrens.
Es gab ein bisschen Ärger … Kampf um eine Dame …
There was a bit of trouble … fighting because of a female …
Jason hat einen interessanten Fund gemacht. Wohl ein Wallaby-Kiefer.
Jason made an interesting find. A wallaby jaw, it seems.
Am Schluss durften wir dann noch bei einer Fütterung dabei sein. So ein Teufelchen hat schon guten Appetit!
At the end we got to watch a feeding. Such a little devil has quite an appetite!
Weiter gehts. Wir müssen jetzt zu unserer nächsten Unterkunft in Orford.
On we go. We now have to get to our next lodging in Orford.
Und was haben wir da unterwegs gesehen?
And what did we see along the way?
Und später dann noch ein Schnabeligel – den haben wir überredet, nicht die Straße zu überqueren.
And then later another echidna – we persuaded that one to not cross the road.
Noch schnell ein paar Pizzen geholt, dann ging es in unser nächstes Zuhause.
We quickly got some pizzas, then we drove to our next home.
