Hallo allerseits! Wieder ein langer, schon fast übervoller Tag, und wir sind müde … ich werde also versuchen, mich kurz zu fassen. Heute wollten wir endlich an die Nordspitze, was gestern ja nicht geklappt hat. ABER: wir wollten erst da anhalten, von wo wir gestern Wale gesehen hatten … vielleicht hätten wir ja noch einmal Glück? Dort am Aussichtspunkt hat uns ein Herr einen versteckten Weg bis hinunter an den Strand beschrieben. Also nichts wie hin!
Hello everybody! Again a long and terribly full day, we are tired … so I will try to keep it short. Today we finally wanted to drive up to the Northern end of the island, since that did not work out yesterday. BUT: we first wanted to stop at the spot from where we had seen the whales yesterday … maybe we would get lucky a second time? There at the lookout, a gentleman described a hidden road all the way down to the beach. So off we went!
Unten am steinigen Parkplatz haben wir erst mal – wieder – wilde Ziegen gesehen. Die sind hier zahlreich unterwegs. Und so sieht der Strand aus:
Down at the stony parking lot we first of all saw – once again – wild goats. They are about in large numbers. And this is what the beach looks like:
Hier eine bestimmte Ecke, die später noch wichtig wird …
Here a certain spot that later on will get important …
Schwarzer Sand, heller Sand, Kiesel, gehärtete Lava. Und auch ein blauer Stein … auch der wird noch wichtig!
Black sand, light sand, pebbles, hardened lava. And also a blue rock … that as well will get important later on!
Bevor wir nach Walen gucken konnten, hatten wir schon Vögel entdeckt. Hier der Rotkardinal, ein Männchen:
Before we could watch for wales, we first discovered some birds. Here the Northern cardinal, a male:

Ja, und dann … aufs Meer schauen. Und schauen. Und schauen. Und nichts entdecken … Ich bin dann immer wieder auf Vogeljagd gegangen, Torben hat nach Walen Ausschau gehalten. Und dann hat er ganz kurz einen Schildkrötenkopf gesehen!!! Wie ich wiederkam, haben wir zusammen darauf gewartet, eine Schildkröte zu sehen … nach einer halben Stunde, kam kurz der Kopf durchs Wasser, und wieder weg … das wars! Natürlich auch kein Foto … Gut, haben wir uns gesagt, dann wars das jetzt, ab nach Norden. ABER: ich wollte noch die Wassertemperatur testen. Habe also die Sandalen ausgezogen, bin – an der erwähnten Ecke – einen Schritt ins Wasser – kalt! Und da ruft Torben: Schildkröte! 3m von mir war sie im Wasser, und wir konnten ihr lange zusehen:
Yes, and then … stare at the ocean. And stare. And stare. And discover nothing … Finally I strolled off time and again to check for birds, while Torben looked for wales. And then for a short moment, he saw a turtle’s head!!! When I came back, we both waited to see a turtle … after half an hour, the head popped up, was gone … that was it! Of course we could take no pictuers … Okay, we said, then that was it, off to the North. BUT: I wanted to test the temperature of the water. So I took off my sandals, went into the water just one step – at the mentioned spot – cold! And then Torben calls: turtle! 3m away from me, there it was, in the water, and we could watch it for a long time.
War das schön! Danach hätten wir eigentlich gehen wollen. Aber mir ging der blaue Stein nicht aus dem Kopf. Den wollte ich doch mitnehmen! Also mussten wir zurück … Und da hat uns der nächste Herr erzählt, dass wir noch ein ganzes Stück weiter gehen sollten, da gäbe es jede Menge Schildkröten. Das haben wir natürlich getan … und nach 20 Tieren haben wir das Zählen aufgehört! Hier ein paar Bilder:
That was so beautiful! After that we really wanted to leave. But I could not get that blue rock out of my head. I did want to take it with me! So we had to go back a bit … And there the next gentleman told us that we should go down the beach a good bit further, there would be lots of turtles. So of course we did just that … and after 20 turtles, we stopped counting! Here a few pictures:

Danach sind wir aber wirklich bis ganz nach Norden gefahren! Dort am Meer wieder keine Wale, aber dafür interessante Wasserspiele:
After that we really drove all the way up North! There at the coast again no wales to be seen, but interesting „fountains“:
Auf der Rückfahrt haben wir eine Eule entdeckt, der haben wir auch lange zugesehen:
On the drive back, we discovered an owl, which we also watched for a long time:
Und dann nochmal zurück zum ersten Aussichtspunkt, aber auch jetzt keine Wale, dafür Sonnenuntergang:
