Gestern haben wir unseren ersten Vancouver-Ausflug gemacht. Zuallererst in den Stanley Park. Das ist ein sehr großer Park, mitten in der Stadt. Vancouver liegt ja am Pazifik, und der Stanley Park ist größtenteils von Wasser umgeben, da gibt es tolle Ausblicke:
Yesterday we went on our first Vancouver excursion. First of all we went to Stanley Park. That is a rather big park, right in the middle of the city. Now, Vancouver is situated on the Pacific coast, and Stanley Park is surrounded by water for the most part – that makes for great views:
Oben seht Ihr die Lions Gate Bridge, die rüber nach Nord- und West-Vancouver führt. Sie wird von Löwen-Statuen flankiert, aber der Name kommt eigentlich daher, dass man auf die „Lions“ zufährt, wenn man sie Richtung Norden überquert. Die Lions sind zwei Berggipfel.
Above you see the Lions Gate Bridge that leads to North and West Vancouver. It is adorned with lion statues, but originally the name referred to the „lions“ that you drive towards when you go North across the bridge. The lions are two mountain peaks.
Hier „Girl in a Wetsuit“ – keine Meerjungfrau! Und komplett mit Vogel … überhaupt waren viele geflügelte Tiere unterwegs:

Wir sind aber nicht nur am Wasser entlang gelaufen. Im Park drinnen gibt es eine Menge zu sehen, die Totempfähle zum Beispiel:
But we did not just walk along the waterfront. Deeper in the park, there is a lot to see, the totem poles for example:

Oben eine Statue, die erst seit Frühling 2015 hier steht: Shore to Shore. Sie zeigt „Portuguese Joe Silvey“, einen portugiesischen Walfänger, der 1858 nach Vancouver emigrierte, und seine beiden Frauen.
Above a statue that has been standing here since spring 2015: Shore to Shore. It shows „Portuguese Joe Silvey“, a Portuguese whaler who emigrated to Vancouver in 1858, and his two wifes.
Dann doch noch einmal Wasser 😉 mit Blick auf Downtown Vancouver. Das Gebäude mit den „Segeln“ ist Canada Place, rechts der Turm ist Harbour Centre, da oben gibt es auch ein Dreh-Restaurant.
Then once more some water 😉 with a view of downtown Vancouver. The building with the „sails“ is Canada Place, on the right the tower is Harbour Centre, up there you also find a revolving restaurant.
Übrigens haben wir nicht nur Vögel gesehen …

Ja, und später waren wir in West- und Nord-Vancouver unterwegs, und da sind wir dann irgendwann auch unter der Lions Gate Bridge gefahren. Spannende Anblicke!
