Im Stanley Park haben wir ja am Montag unsere Vancouver-Erkundung begonnen, von daher fragt Ihr Euch vielleicht: Stanley Park? Schon wieder? Da waren die doch schon … Ja, der Stanley Park ist groß, und Beginn dieser Woche haben wir ja nur eine Stunde dort verbracht. Gestern haben wir etwas mehr Zeit investiert …

Die Lions Gate Bridge verbindet den Park ja mit Nord- und West-Vancouver. Also fangen wir kurz damit an, damit Ihr: 1. einen der Löwen seht (oben) und 2. einen Blick auf das gestrige Wetter werfen könnt (unten). Wolken? Mangelware. Wir hatten einen wunderschön sonnigen Tag … nur sehr kalt war es leider.
The Lions Gate Bridge connects the park with North and West Vancouver. So let’s start there, so that you can 1. see one of the lions (above) and 2. appreciate yesterday’s weather (below). Clouds? Hard to find. We had a wonderfully sunny day … though it was very cold, unfortunately.
So, und dann machen wir einen großen Sprung … zur Waterfront. Das ist die südliche Haltestelle für den SeaBus, eine Fähre, die auch die Verbindung von Nord und Süd sicherstellt.
So, and then we take a large leap … to the Waterfront. That is the Southern stop for the SeaBus, a ferry that also provides a connections between North and South.
Von da sind wir nämlich losgelaufen, einmal ganz durch Downtown Vancouver.
Because that is where we started walking, once through downtown Vancouver.
Zuerst zur Robson Street, auf der wir ein ganzes Stück Richtung Stanley Park gelaufen sind. Dabei haben wir uns natürlich die Häuser links und rechts angesehen …
First to Robson Street, which we then walked for a while towards Stanley Park. And of course in doing so we looked at the houses to our left and right …
Auf der Broughton Street haben wir dann die Richtung geändert und sind nach links, ins West End. Dort gibt es schnuckelige alte Häuser zu bewundern.
On Broughton Street then we changed direction and turned left, into the West End. There you can admire lovely old houses.
Dort waren auch jede Menge Vögel unterwegs, in all den Bäumen und Büschen.
And there lots of birds could be seen, in all the trees and bushes.
Wir sind als nächstes zur English Bay gelaufen, am Morton Park vorbei. Dort steht die Bronze-Skulptur A-Maze-Ing Laughter.
We then walked on towards English Bay, passing Morton Park. There you can see the bronze sculpture A-Maze-Ing Laughter.
Und dann waren wir auch schon am Wasser. Das Wetter nach wie vor wie aus dem Bilderbuch.
And then we had reached the water. The weather was still like fresh out of a picture book.
Wir sind am Strand entlang Richtung Norden, Stanley Park. Aber da kamen wir an einem Baum vorbei, auf dem zwei Kanadareiher saßen. Die mussten wir natürlich fotografieren / filmen.
We walked along the beach towards the North, Stanley Park. But then we passed a tree on which two great blue herons sat. Those we had to photograph / film, of course.
Da hat uns ein Herr angesprochen und uns erklärt, wo wir die ganze Kolonie finden. Also nix wie hin!
There a gentleman approached us and told us, where we could find the whole colony. So off we went!
Da waren jede Menge Nester, aber leer … Doch wir haben dann erfahren, dass ein Weißkopf-Seeadler (später haben wir auch einen vorbeifliegen sehen) über die Nester geflogen war. Da haben die Reiher dann alle Reißaus genommen. Doch nach einer kleinen Weile kamen sie alle wieder zurück:
There were lots of nests, empty though … But then we found out that earlier a bald eagle (later we saw one fly by as well) had flown over the nests. So that made all the herons take off. But after a bit of a wait, they all came back:
Wir haben ihnen eine Weile zugesehen, dann sind wir weiter in den Park gehoppelt …
We watched them for a while, then we hopped on into the park.

Da haben wir jede Menge Enten gesehen, Brautenten zum Beispiel:
There we saw lots of ducks, wood ducks for example:
Und den Biber-Bau, aber leider keine Biber ;-(
And the beaver’s lodge, but unfortunately no beavers ;-(
Wir sind lange im Park herumgelaufen … bis wir dann beim Rowing Club wieder ans Wasser kamen.
We walked around in the park for a long time … until we then finally reached the water again at the Rowing Club.
Da haben ein paar Kormorane gleich Reißaus genommen …
There a few cormorants took flight right away …
Wir haben zum Abschluss auch noch mal einen Kanadareiher gesehen, ganz nah dieses Mal.
In closing we also saw one more blue heron, real close this time.
Und dann haben wir uns wieder der Stadt zugewendet.
And then we turned back towards the city.

And this time we walked behind the public library, this is the view from the back:
Tja, das war eine lange Wanderung, 10:30 Uhr waren wir an der Waterfront losgelaufen, und fast sechs Stunden später, um 16:20 Uhr waren wir wieder im Hotel. Und müde!
Well, that was a long hike, 10:30 a.m. we had started walking at the Waterfront, and almost six hours later, at 4:20 p.m. we were back at the hotel. And tired!
Aber: der Frühling ist da! Wir freuen uns auf die Narzissen in Bremen …
But: spring is here! We look forward to the daffodils in Bremen …
