Heute haben wir uns eine Menge angesehen! Zuerst sind wir hier in der Nähe des Hotels zu zwei Gebäuden, die wir bisher nur bei schlechtem Wetter gesehen hatten. – Es war heute nämlich wieder ein Tag mit blauem Himmel und Sonnenschein.
Today we looket at a lot of things! First we went to two buildings near our hotel, because those so far we had only seen in bad weather. – For today once again we had a splendid day with blue sky and sunshine.
Dann sind wir zum Harbour Centre. Da oben seht Ihr den Lookout, das war unser Ziel.
Then we went to the Harbour Centre. Up there you can see the Lookout, that was our destination.
Von da oben ist der Ausblick einfach atemberaubend!
From up there the view is just breathtaking!
Und hier haben wir über unsere zwei ersten Gebäude des Tages auch etwas gelernt: Das Dominion-Gebäude war das erste Hochhaus mit einem Stahlrahmen in Vancouver. Als es 1910 fertiggestellt wurde, war es das höchste Gebäude im gesamten britischen Königreich …
And here we also learned something about our first two buildings of the day: The Dominion Building was the first steel framed high-rise in Vancouver. When it was completed in 1910, it was the tallest building in the entire British empire …
… bis 1912, als der Sun Tower gebaut wurde. Zuerst hieß er The World Building, da war die Vancouver World, eine Zeitung, angesiedelt. Die wurde später von der Vancouver Sun Zeitung aufgekauft.
… until 1912, when the Sun Tower was built. First it was called The World Building, because it housed the Vancouver World, a newspaper. That was later bought by the newspaper Vancouver Sun.
Unten links seht Ihr BC Place Stadion, und rechts eine Kirche, die wir uns auch noch ansehen wollten.
On the lower left you see BC Place stadium, and to the right a church that we also meant to take a look at.
Da sind wir dann als nächstes hin. Dies ist die Holy Rosary Cathedral.
That was our next destination. It’s the Holy Rosary Cathedral.
Danach sind wir mit dem Bus zu Granville Island. Das ist eine Halbinsel mitten in Vancouver, dort gibt es jede Menge kleine Geschäfte, einen großen Markt und kleine Lokale. Eine Brauerei haben wir gefunden, und viele Theater sind hier auch angesiedelt.
Then we took the bus to Granville Island. That is a peninsula right in Vancouver, there you find a whole lot of little shops, a big public market and small eateries. We spotted a brewery, and many theaters are residing here as well.
Dort haben wir uns zwei Schallplatten gekauft: Zimt-Platten … 😉

Aber auf Granville Island gibt es nicht nur drinnen viel zu sehen, draußen hat man tolle Blicke auf die Stadt.
But on Granville Island there is not just much to see when you are inside, outside you have great views of the city.
Ja, und dann wollten wir eigentlich noch einmal in den VanDusen Park, weil wir so viel Spaß gehabt hatten, als wir dort die Kolibris gesehen haben … Also sind wir die Straße entlang, auf der Suche nach einer Bushaltestelle. Dabei kommen wir durch einen Mini-Park, und wer sitzt da und singt?
Yes, and then we originally wanted to go to the VanDusen park once more, because we had had so much fun, when we spotted the hummingbirds there … So we walked down the street, looking for a bus stop. In doing so, we crossed a tiny park, and who do we see sitting there and singing?
Naja, da sind wir dann nicht mehr zum VanDusen Park gefahren …
Oh well, so then we did not go to the VanDusen park after all …
Hm … Harbour Centre? Hatten wir doch schon … ist Kirsche da ein falsches Bild reingerutscht? Nein, wir sind nämlich noch einmal hin, denn: unsere Karten galten den ganzen Tag, und deswegen waren wir pünktlich zum Sonnenuntergang wieder oben im Lookout.
Hm … Harbour Centre? We already had that … did Kirsche get her photos mixed up there? No, because we went there once more, for: our tickets were valid the whole day, and so we were once again up on the Lookout right on time for the sunset.
Ganz spannend: heute morgen konnten wir Mount Baker, ein Berg in den Vereinigten Staaten, nicht sehen, aber jetzt im Abendlicht, da war er zu erkennen:
Quite fascinating: this morning we could not discern Mount Baker, a mountain in the United States, but now in the evening twilight, we could see it:
