05.05.2018: Madrid

Nach unseren schönen Ausflügen in den Harz und nach Untergruppenbach haben wir in Braunschweig den Geburtstag eines guten Freundes mitgefeiert, dann ein paar Tage in Bremen verbracht … und dann war es doch höchste Zeit, mal wieder ein wenig weiter weg zu fliegen 😉

After our nice trips to the Harz Mountains and to Untergruppenbach, we joined the birthday party of a good friend in Braunschweig, then spent a few days in Bremen … and then it was definitely high time to once again take a plane to somewhere a bit further 😉

Also haben wir Romain, einen guten Freund und Kollegen, in Madrid besucht. Am Samstag haben ein paar freundliche Wesen uns den Weg zu seiner Wohnung gewiesen:

So we visited Romain, a good friend and colleague, in Madrid. On Saturday a few friendly creatures showed us the way to his apartment:

Und nach einem netten Frühstück haben wir zu dritt die Stadt erwandert.  Nach einer kurzen Fahrt mit der U-Bahn sind wir zunächst zum Bahnhof Atocha gelaufen, den Ihr hier seht.

And after a nice breakfast the three of us explored the city on foot. After a short trip with the subway, we first walked to Atocha station which you can see here.

Und wenn Ihr Euch den jetzt anseht und denkt: naja, so toll sieht der aber nicht aus – gibt es in Madrid nicht beeindruckendere Dinge zu sehen? Dann schaut Euch mal das nächste Foto an, da seht Ihr nämlich das Innenleben der alten Bahnhofshalle.

And if now you look at the picture and think: well, the station does not really look all that great – are there not more impressive things to see in Madrid? Then take a peek at the next photo, because there you see the interior of the old station concourse.

Da drinnen haben wir natürlich die Pflanzen bestaunt, aber auch die Halle an sich und solche Details wie die Lampen.

In there we admired the plants of course, but also the large hall itself and such details as the lamps.

Um die Palmen gab es auch Wasserbecken, da haben sich Unmengen von Schildkröten getummelt.

Around the palm trees there were also water basins in which a vast number of turtles had a good time.

Und da gab es noch mehr komische Kreaturen …

And there were even more strange creatures …

Die durften aber – anders als die Schildkröten – auch wieder aus dem Bahnhof raus. Und hier seht Ihr, dass der auch von außen durchaus sehr schöne Seiten hat.

But those – unlike the turtles – were allowed to leave the station again. And here you can see that the building can also look very pretty from the outside.

Wir sind dann weiter gewandert. Eigentlich wollten wir in den botanischen Garten, aber weil es ein so wunderschöner Tag war, wollten das auch ganz viele andere Menschen. Als wir die Schlange am Eingang gesehen haben, haben wir uns also umentschieden und sind in den Retiro-Park gegangen.

We then walked on. Originally we had planned to go to the botanical garden, but since it was such a really gorgeous day, a lot of other people had had the exact same idea. When we spotted the queue at the entrance, we quickly changed our minds and instead went into the Retiro Park.

Hier steht der Kristallpalast, ein wunderschöner Bau. Leider wurde er gerade renoviert, also konnten wir ihn nur von außen bewundern.

Here the Crystal Palace is located, a gorgeous structure. Unfortunately it was being renovated, so we could only admire it from the outside.

Und hier findet man auch dieses Monument zu Ehren von Alfonso XII.

And here you can also find this monument to Alfonso XII.

Dann sind wir die Straßen entlang gelaufen. Vorbei an der Puerte de Alcalá, in Auftrag gegeben von Karl III. 1778 wurde dieser schöne Torbogen eingeweiht.

Then we walked along different streets. Past the Puerta de Alcalá, which had been ordered built by Karl III. In 1778 this beautiful arch was finished.

Es gab so viele tolle Fassaden zu sehen!

There were so many gorgeous house fronts to be seen!

Ja, viel zu sehen gab es, man musste aufpassen, dass man vor lauter Herumschauen nicht gegen irgendetwas läuft. Tja … das wurde wohl auch diesem Herrn zum Verhängnis …

Yes, there was much to see, and one had to take care not to run into things with all that looking around. Well … and that probably also sealed the fate of this gentleman …
