Nach der Krypta gings wieder nach draußen, schließlich gibt es in der Almudena-Kathedrale noch viel mehr zu sehen. Für den Bau gab es die ersten Pläne bereits im 16. Jahrhundert, doch erst im 19. Jahrhundert begann dann wirklich der Bau, der erst 1993 beendet wurde. Deswegen hat uns hier Johannes Paul II begrüßt, der sie damals geweiht hat.
After the crypt we went back outside, there is so much more to see in the Almudena Cathedral, after all. For this edifice the first plans were made in the 16th century, but building was not started until the 19th century, and in 1993 the cathedral was finished. That is why John Paul II welcomed us here – he consecrated the building back then.
Und noch eine Skulptur haben wir entdeckt. Interessanterweise hatten wir so etwas auch schon in Vancouver vor einer Kirche gesehen:
And we discovered another sculpture. Interestingly enough we had seen something like this already in Vancouver, in front of a church:
Aber jetzt wollen wir wirklich in die Kathedrale gehen! Hier ist die Tür:

Und dann waren wir drinnen. Eine ganz andere Atmosphäre als unten in der Krypta. Auch hier gibt es viele Säulen, aber nur eine Sorte.
And then we were inside. A very different atmosphere from below in the crypt. Here as well there are many columns, but only one kind.

Aber am sehenswertesten war die hohe Decke, die – man kann es in den oberen Bildern schon erahnen – ganz wunderschön geschmückt war.
But most spectacularly worth seeing was the high ceiling which – in the upper photos you can already glimpse it – was beautifully decorated.
Toll, nicht wahr? Auch die Fenster waren außergewöhnlich. Viele waren recht modern.
Great, don’t you think? The windows were also remarkable. Many of them were quite modern.
Und wenn man bei dem rechten genauer hinsieht, möchte man meinen, da wurde schon die gerade vergangene Fußball-Weltmeisterschaft angekündigt.
