So, am Dienstag haben wir uns wieder auf den Weg gemacht … natürlich haben wir auch wieder die U-Bahn genommen. Wir sind wie üblich an unserer „grünen“ Station, Fridhemsplan eingestiegen …
Well, on Tuesday we set out again … of course we took the subway once again. As usual, we started at our „green“ station, Fridhemsplan …
… und dann sind wir weitergefahren. Wohin, wo wir schon waren, aber dieses Mal sind wir nicht oben zum Rathaus sondern haben uns unten die U-Bahn-Station angesehen.
… and then we rode on. Somewhere where we had been before, but this time we did not go up to the Town Hall but rather looked at the subway station below.
Da gibt es diese Säulen und Bögen, halb „verschüttet“.

Und da war noch mehr an der Decke …

Und dann waren wir wieder oberirdisch unterwegs. Vorbei an schönen Gebäuden.
And then we traveled on above ground again. Past pretty buildings.
Auch Gänse waren unterwegs. Weißwangengänse heißen sie, oder Nonnengänse, die haben wir in Stockholm oft gesehen.
Geese were about as well. Barnacle geese they are called, and we spotted them often in Stockholm.
Diese Gänse sind eher im hohen Norden Europas zu finden. Und zum Thema Norden wären wir jetzt auch am Nordiska Museet vorbeigekommen. Auf jeden Fall von außen ein tolles Gebäude. Aber wir sind zu einem anderen Museum gegangen …

… das Vasa-Museum. Auch ein spannender Bau.

In diesem Museum dreht sich alles um das riesige Schiff „Vasa“. Hier ein paar Bilder des Original-Schiffes:

Schon alleine die „Stückpforten“, durch die die Kanonen schießen konnten, sind wunderschön.

Ja, und wie das mit Königen so ist … die wollen nicht einfach nur ein Kriegsschiff, sondern ein ganz besonderes. Größer, besser, toller … Also wird gebaut.
Well, and the way it is with kings … they don’t just want a simple warship, but of course a special one. Bigger, better, greater … So they start construction.
Eine Menge Kanonen hatte der König geordert – für zwei Kanonendecks. Nicht nur, dass solch ein Schiff in Schweden bis dahin noch nie gebaut worden war, es war problematisch, weil die Kanonen natürlich für viel Gewicht sorgten, das recht weit oben im Schiff die Stabilität erschwerte. Und außerdem, weil das Schiff auf die Weise nicht tiefer als bis knapp zu den unteren Stückpforten im Wasser liegen durfte. Für die Steine, die als Ballast unten in den Kiel kamen, war recht wenig Raum ….
A lot of cannons the king had ordered – for two cannon decks. But not only that never until then had such a ship been built in Sweden, it was simply problematic, for the cannons made for a lot of weight rather high in the ship’s hull, that negatively influenced the balance. And then of course also because this way the ship could not be allowed to lie in the water any lower than just below the gun ports of the second deck. For the rocks that were placed in the bottom of the keel, there was not much space …
Das ganze lief dann auch noch unter Zeitdruck ab, weil der König das Schiff am besten sofort haben wollte, und so kam es, wie es kommen musste: Auf seiner Jungfernfahrt kam die Galeone ungefähr 1300m weit, dann sank sie nach ca. 20 Minuten Fahrt.
And the whole thing was conducted after a lot of time pressure, because the king wanted to have the ship immediately at best. And thus the inevitable happened: On its maiden voyage, the galleon managed about 1300m, then it sank after a trip of around 20 minutes.
Das war 1628. Und 1961, also 333 Jahre später, wurde sie geborgen, so wie hier zu sehen:

Da lohnt sich doch auch ein ganzes Museum, oder? Wir fanden es auf jeden Fall sehr spannend und wollen irgendwann nochmal hin.
For that it is worth to have a whole museum, don’t you think? Anyway, we thought it was quite fascinating and we want to come back some day.
