Stockholm war toll, aber danach waren wir ja wieder daheim … fast EINE GANZE WOCHE LANG! Das war dann aber auch genug!!! Dann ging es wieder auf Reisen, dieses Mal nach: Polen!
Stockholm was great, but after that we spent time back home … for almost A WHOLE WEEK! And then it was definitely enough!!! After that, we went on the next tour, this time to: Poland!
Erster Anlaufpunkt war natürlich Warschau, und da fällt einem schon fast zwangsläufig ein riesiges Gebäude auf: der Kulturpalast. Gestiftet von Stalin in den 50er Jahren, ist dieser Bau zwar sehr beeindruckend, aber die Bevölkerung liebt das Bauwerk wohl nicht gerade. – Bis heute das höchste Gebäude in ganz Polen.
Starting point, of course, was Warsaw, and there you have a hard time not noticing a huge building: the Palace of Culture and Science. Donated by Stalin in the fifties, this structure is quite impressive, but the population apparently does not really love this edifice. – To date still the highest building in all of Poland.
Was für Touristen wie uns ganz toll ist: Man darf weit oben von einer Aussichtsplatform den Blick über die Stadt genießen.
A definite plus for tourists like us: From way up on a viewing balcony, you are allowed to enjoy the view over the city.
Hier seht Ihr einen Wolkenkratzer des Archtitekten Daniel Libeskind. Das Gebäude wird „das Segel“ genannt.
Here you can see a skyscraper designed by architect Daniel Libeskind. The building is called „the sail“.
Wir hatten auf unserer großen Reise schon in Singapur beeindruckende Wolkenkratzer gesehen, die aus seiner Feder stammen.
On our great journey we had already seen impressive highrises in Singapore that he had designed.
Auch hier oben war – wie das Gesamtgebäude – alles eher überdimensional, groß und hoch.
Up here as well – just like the building on the whole – everything was rather colossal in every direction.
Es gibt hier übrigens auch ein Kino, ein Drehrestaurant, ein Theater, Museen …
By the way, in this building you also find a cinema, a rotating restaurant, a theater, museums …
Ja, genug vom Kulturpalast, jetzt schauen wir uns ein bisschen mehr von Warschau an – vom Boden aus.
Yes, enough of the Palace of Culture, now we will take a closer look at some more of Warsaw – on the ground.
Wir sind hier aber nirgends eingestiegen sondern brav zu Fuß gegangen – da sieht man dann doch immer noch am meisten.
We did not jump into any of these vehicles though, we stayed on foot – that way you still get to see the most.

We first walked to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, which you can see here:
Das Grabmal ist der einzige Teil des einstigen Sächsischen Palais, das hier stand und im 2. Weltkrieg zerstört wurde.
The tomb is the only part that survived of the former Saxon Palace, which used to stand here and was destroyed in WWII.
Hier wurde die Erde von 24 Schlachtfeldern in Urnen aufgestellt.
Here soil from 24 battlefields was put into urns.
Dann sind wir weitergelaufen. Unter anderem vorbei an einer Statue für Kardinal Stefan Wyszynski, der sich im 2. Weltkrieg den Nazis entgegenstellte, Juden half und den Aufständischen in Warschau.
Then we walked on. Past this statue for example, of cardinal Stefan Wyszysnki, who in WWII stood up to the Nazis, helped Jews and the insurgents of the Warsaw Uprising.
Dann war es schon ziemlich spät – wir waren ja erst morgens losgeflogen, mit einem Zwischenstop in München. Also sind wir im Abendlicht die Prachtmeile entlang spaziert.
By then it was rather late already – after all we had only left Bremen this morning, with a stopover in Munich. So in the evening light, we strolled along one of the most representative streets.
Da gibt es jede Menge schöne Fassaden zu sehen.
There are lots of beautiful house fronts to see.
Und Kopernikus saß da auch.
And Copernicus sat around there as well.
Wer die Stockholm-Einträge gelesen hat, erinnert sich bei „Ardbeg“, dass wir da ein Restaurant unter dem Namen dieser Whisky-Marke gefunden hatten.
For those who have read the Stockholm entries, reading „Ardbeg“ you will remember that there we had found a restaurant with the name of that whisky destillery.
Hier haben wir jetzt eine Bar gefunden. Im Erdgeschoss gab es Cocktails, oben war die stilvolle Whiskybar mit einer unendlichen Auswahl. Der Turm in der Mitte des Raumes, der beide Stockwerke verbindet, zeigt nur einen Teil all der Flaschen, die es da gibt.
Here now we found a bar. On the ground floor they served cocktails, on the upper floor there was the stylish whisky bar with an endless selection. The tower in the middle of the room, which connects both floors, shows only a part of all the bottles they have there.
Wir haben jeder einen feinen Whisky probiert und den Abend genossen.
We each tried a nice whisky and enjoyed the evening.
Dann sind wir zum Hotel gelaufen.
Then we walked back to the hotel.
Natürlich kamen wir auch wieder am Kulturpalast vorbei.
Of course we also passed the Palace of Culture again.
