Nach Posen hat es uns also verschlagen, in ein wunderschönes Hotel, mit einem Fahrstuhl im überglasten Innenhof, die Wände mit gefüllten Weinregalen dekoriert:
So Poznan is where we next ended up, in a wonderful hotel, with an elevator in a glass covered atrium, the walls decorated with filled wine racks:
Als erstes sind wir einfach mal losgelaufen, in Richtung Marktplatz um das Rathaus herum. Das hätten wir uns auch gerne von innen angesehen, laut Reiseführer wäre es einen Blick wert, aber: es war Montag, und wir haben schnell herausgefunden, dass in Posen montags ganz viel zu hat!
First of all we simply started walking, in the direction of the market square around the town hall. Which we would have liked to see from the inside, according to our travel guide it is worth looking at, but: it was Monday, and we found out pretty quickly, that in Poznan, a lot of places are closed on Mondays!
Also haben wir uns erst einmal an den schönen Fassaden erfreut.
So for now we simply enjoyed the nice house fronts.

Wo dieser Herr wohl auf jemanden wartet. – Es zeigte sich, dass in Posen auffallend viele Statuen zu finden sind, das werdet Ihr noch sehen.
Where this gentleman seems to be waiting for somebody. – It turned out that in Poznan exceptionally many statues are to be found, as you will see.
Ach so, und es war wohl so eine Art Flohmarkt:

Und hier haben wir jetzt einen etwas besseren Blick auf das Rathaus. Von außen auch sehr schön anzusehen.

Wirklich sehr schöne Fassaden. – Aber irgendwie fühlten wir uns beobachtet!

Und hier noch eine Statue (von vielen): Apollo. An den vier Ecken des Platzes steht jeweils ein Gott (und eine Göttin!). Und zumindest Apollo scheint mit seinem Standort nicht zufrieden zu sein – ich glaube, ihm ist es zu nass! Seht nur, wie er auf den Zehen steht …
And here one more statue (of many more): Apollo. At each of the four corners of the square you will find a God (and one Goddess!). And at least Apollo seems to be not all that happy with his spot – I do think for him it is too wet! See how he is standing on tiptoes …

Wir waren unterwegs zum Königsschloss. Und wie das so ist, in der Umgebung von Schlössern, Königen, Prinzessinnen werden ja gerne mal Monster erlegt:
We were on our way to the Royal Castle. And the way things go in the vicinity of castles, kings, princesses – often they feel the need to kill all kinds of monsters:
Hier jetzt ein Blick auf das Schloss. Der Turm sah aus wie frisch gewaschen 😉 Kein Wunder: die Anfänge des Schlosses sind unbekannt, 1249 wurde es – wieder – aufgebaut. Anfang des 18. Jahrhunderts wieder zerstört, 1783 wieder aufgebaut, 1945 niedergebrannt und 1959 – 1963 das bisher letzte Mal wieder aufgebaut.
Here now a look at the castle. The tower looked as if it had been newly polished 😉 And no wonder: when the castle was first built is unknown, 1249 it was re-built. At the beginning of the 18th century it was destroyed again, 1783 rebuilt. 1945 burned down and 1959 – 1963 once again rebuild – for the last time so far.
Ja, und für mehr hatten wir auch gar keine Zeit, denn jetzt ging es wirklich auf Mittag zu, und da wollten wir unbedingt wieder am Rathaus sein! – Also, hier seht Ihr das ganze Schloss, und dann müssen wir weiter:

Und dann waren wir wieder beim Rathaus. Und warum? fragt Ihr – immerhin hatten wir das Gebäude ja schon von außen gesehen und festgestellt, dass wir nicht rein durften …
And then we were back at the town hall. And why? you ask – after all, we had already seen the building from the outside, and discovered that we were not allowed in …
Um Punkt zwölf hört man natürlich die Glocken schlagen. Danach wird ein Horn geblasen (dieser Tage kommt das vom Band), und dann … Man achte auf die Türchen genau über der Uhr …

Jeden Tag um zwölf Uhr mittags tauchen hier zwei Ziegen auf, und zwar schon seit 1551!
Every day at 12 o’clock noon two goats show up here, and they’ve been doing so since 1551!
Die Legende besagt, dass nach einem großen Brand und dem Wieder-aufbau des Rathauses dort ein großes Fest gefeiert werden sollte. Für den Bürgermeister und andere Würdenträger sollte es einen Rehbraten geben. Doch der Koch war von all den Festlichkeiten so abgelenkt, dass ihm der Braten ins Feuer fiel.
According to legend, after a great fire and the reconstruction of the town hall, an elaborate celebration was planned. For the mayor and other dignitaries, a roast deer was to be prepared. But the cook was so distracted by all the festivities around him, that he did not pay close enough attention and the roast fell into the fire.
In seiner Not wollte er von einer nahen Wiese zwei Ziegen stehlen. Er zerrte die Tiere in die Küche im Rathaus, doch da entwischten ihm die beiden Böcke und rannten die Treppe den Turm hinauf. Oben angekommen kämpften sie miteinander. – Und die Leute unten schauten zu und amüsierten sich. Deswegen wurden sowohl der Koch als auch die Ziegen begnadigt 😉
In his desparatoin, he wanted to steal two goats from a nearby meadow. He grabbed the animals and pulled them into the kitchen of the town hall, but there the two billy goats escaped and ran up the stairs of the tower. And up at the top, they butted heads. – And the people below watched and were very entertained. Because of that both the cook and the goats were pardoned 😉
Da kriegt man ja richtig Hunger, wenn man diese Geschichte hört! Also haben wir uns ein nettes Restaurant auf dem Platz gesucht und uns gestärkt.
Hearing this tale, one feels the hunger growing! So we found ourselves a nice restaurant here on the square and had a bite to eat.
Und wir waren nicht die einzigen, die hungrig waren!
And we were not the only ones who were hungry!
