So, Zeit weiterzuziehen … Nur ist das in Polen so eine Sache, da geht so ziemlich alles über Warschau. Wir sind also vor sieben aufgestanden und erst einmal dorthin geflogen.
So, time to move on … But in Poland that is easier said than done, pretty much all ways lead via Warsaw. So we got up way before seven and first flew there.

Und da hatten wir dann etwas Aufenthalt, aber es gab auch Möglichkeiten, die Wartezeit angenehm zu verbringen …
And there we had a bit of a stopover, but there we did discover ways to spend the waiting period pleasantly …
Wir sind dann schließlich weiter geflogen, nach Breslau. Dort sind wir am frühen Nachmittag gelandet, dann mussten wir auf den Bus warten … aber schließlich waren wir in der Stadt. Um vier hatten wir dann unser Hotel erreicht.
And then we finally caught the next plane, to Wroclaw. There we landed in the early afternoon, then we had to wait a bit for the bus … but finally we were in town. And at four in the afternoon we had finally reached our hotel.
Und jetzt müssen wir über die Zwerge reden! Die waren zunächst ein Symbol, das die politische Oppositionsbewegung „Orange Alternative“ nutzte. Dem zu Ehren wurde 2001 eine Zwergenfigur aufgestellt, und dann kamen immer mehr und neue Zwerge dazu.
And now we have to talk about the dwarfs! They were first a symbol which the political anti-communist movement „orange alternative“ used. To honour that, a dwarf statue was set up in 2001, and then more and more dwarfs were added.

In der ganzen Stadt kann man Zwerge entdecken, in Hauseingängen,
All over the city you can discover dwarfs, in doorways,
am Straßenrand,
at the side of the road,
überall.
everywhere.
Es macht unheimlich Spaß, die Zwerge zu entdecken – zwischen abgestellten Fahrrädern zum Beispiel – und es sorgt dafür, dass man sich die Stadt noch genauer ansieht, in jede kleine Straße geht und alles mit den Augen absucht. – Eben ein Gefühl wie Ostern!
It is such incredible fun to discover the dwarfs – between bicycles at a bike rack, for example – and it makes you take an even closer look at the city, makes you enter every little side street and makes you search every surface with your eyes. – Really a feeling like Easter!
Aber natürlich wären uns die schönen Fassaden um das Rathaus herum auch so aufgefallen …
But of course we would have noticed the nice house fronts all around the town hall anyhow …
Ach so, und hier und da bringt so ein Zwerg einen auch auf eine Idee: HUNGRIG!
Oh, and here and there one of those dwarfs will trigger a thought: HUNGRY!
Also haben wir schön hier draußen gesessen – also zumindest Torben hat, ich musste dann doch noch mal kurz um die Ecke schauen, nicht, dass wir einen Zwerg übersehen hätten …
So we sat nicely out here – or at least Torben did, because I had to take another quick look around the corner, I did not want to risk that we might have missed a dwarf …
Aber dann gab es wirklich was zu essen … die kalte Tomatensuppe war sehr, sehr lecker!
But then we really did get something to eat … the cold tomato soup was really delicious!
Wir waren ja zur Zeit der Fußball-WM unterwegs. Und an diesem Tag hat Polen gespielt. Wir hätten es den Leuten so gegönnt, dass ihr Team siegt, doch leider ging es 2:1 für Senegal aus …
We were traveling while the Football World Cup was running. And on that day Poland had a match. We would have been so happy for the people there, had their team won, but unfortunately the match ended 2:1 for Senegal …
Nach dem Essen sind wir noch ein bisschen herumgelaufen.
After our snack we walked around some more.
Und nein, teuer war das Essen nicht. Das ist nicht der Grund, warum wir Euch hier ein Foto einer Bank zeigen … guckt mal links unten.

Hier dann mal wieder kein Zwerg, sondern ein Blick auf das alte Rathaus.
Here a picture without a dwarf for a change, instead with a view of the old town hall.
Davor steht dieser Brunnen. Es ist übrigens eine Kopie des Originals, das 1904 hier aufgestellt wurde. Der Künstler Ernst Moritz Geyger soll 3 Jahre davor zu einem Vortrag nach Breslau gekommen sein, und an einem heißen Tag war er am Marktplatz und konnte nirgends einen Brunnen finden, um seinen Durst zu löschen. Also versprach er, selber einen herzustellen.
In front of it you find this fountain. It is a copy of the original that had been erected here in 1904. The story goes that artist Ernst Moritz Geyger came to Wroclaw to give a lecture three years earlier, and on a hot day he was at the market square and could not find a fountain anywhere to have a drink. So he promised to make one himself.
In Bremen soll es ja Glück bringen, wenn man beide Vorderhufe des Esels berührt, hier soll man die Nase des Bären reiben.
In Bremen they say it is good luck to touch both front hooves of the donkey, while here you are supposed to rub the bear’s nose.
Am Rathaus gab es jede Menge schöne Details zu entdecken.
On the walls of the town hall there were many nice details to discover.

Aber auch an anderen Gebäuden gab es viel zu sehen.
But also other buildings sported nice details.
Zum Beispiel deutsche Inschriften: „Es kömmert sich mancher umb diss und umb das – und weiß nit was – Bistdu aber from ane neid und has – So baw ein bessres und las mir das.“
German inscriptions for example: „Some worry about this and about that – and know not what – but are you without envy and hate – so build a better and leave me this.“
Und dann noch ein letzter Zwerg für den Tag … der ist extra die Stange hochgeklettert, damit wir ihn auch nicht übersehen!
And then one more dwarf for this day … this one climbed up the pole, to make sure that we would not overlook it!
Und dann sind wir wieder ins Hotel …
And then we went back to the hotel …
