Gestern, als wir im Hotel ankamen und unser Zimmer im obersten Stock suchten, war uns aufgefallen, dass es da wohl eine Tür nach draußen gibt … also haben wir uns heute morgen als erstes angesehen, was wir da auf dem Dach geboten kriegen:
Yesterday, when we arrived at the hotel and looked for our room on the top floor, we had noticed that there seems to be also a door to the roof … so this morning that was the first thing we checked out. And this is what is offered on the top of the roof:
Und dann haben wir heute einen anderen Weg zur U-Bahn genommen als gestern Nachmittag. Da rannten auch ein paar andere Leutchen rum …
And then today we took a different path to the subway than the one we had taken yesterday afternoon. There were also some other people running around …
Dann ab in die U-Bahn, mit dem ersten Entertainment-Baustein des Tages (da kommen noch mehr!).
Then into the subway, with the first entertainment module of the day (more to come later on!).
Wir sind ins gotische Viertel gefahren und einfach mal losgelaufen. Wunderschöne Hausfassaden haben wir gesehen und auch sehr schöne Laternen:
We took a ride to the Gothic Quarter and simply started walking. We saw beautiful house fronts, and also very pretty street lamps:
Wovon wir auch viele interessante und schöne Exemplare gesehen haben: von Wasserspeiern, hier zum Beispiel an unserem ersten Hauptziel: die Kirche Santa Maria del Mar.
Of what we also saw many interesting and beautiful examples: of gargoyles, here for example at our first main destination: the church Santa Maria del Mar.
Bei einer anderen Sehenswürdigkeit hat uns ein Herr aufgeklärt, dass diese Kirche in nur 50 Jahren gebaut wurde (laut Internet waren es 54, 1329-1383) und daher sehr stimmig nur einen Baustil, katalanische Gotik, aufweist.
At a different historic site, a gentleman explained to us, that this church had been built in just 50 years (according to the web, it was 54, 1329-1383), and because of that it shows very harmoniously just one style, Catalan Gothic

Und noch etwas, das ganz eindeutig erst später kam: Eine Hommage an den Fußballclub FC Barcelona unten in der Mitte …
And something else that very clearly was added at a later date: An homage to the football club FC Barcelona, in the middle of the lowest row …
Wir waren zur richtigen Tageszeit da, das Sonnenlicht, das durch die Fenster fiel, hat die Farben zum Leuchten gebracht – leider lässt sich die Pracht schwer einfangen. Am besten: selber hinfahren und ansehen!
We were there at the right time of day, the sunlight shining through the windows made the colours glow – unfortunately this beauty is difficult to catch in a photo. Best thing: go there yourself and take a look!
Und wenigstens ein kleiner Eindruck, wie die Kirche von außen aussieht. Sie ist von anderen Gebäuden sehr eng umstellt …
And at least a bit of an impression of what the church looks like from the outside. It is very closely surrounded by other buildings …
Wir sind weitergelaufen. Entertainment Nr. 2:

Dann haben wir dieses tolle Gebäude gesehen: eine Post.
Then we saw this gorgeous building: a post office.
Auf Verdacht sind wir einfach mal reingelaufen. Da drinnen findet ganz normaler Postbetrieb statt. Aber wenn man den Blick nach oben richtet!!! Ein absoluter Geheimtipp, den wir da entdeckt haben.
On a hunch, we simply walked in. And in there you see normal post office life in action. But when you then look up to the ceiling!!! An absolute insider tip which we discovered there.
Draußen gabs wieder … naja … Entertainment? Die sind ganz schön laut, aber sehr hübsch:
Outside we once again agot … well … entertainment? They are quite noisy, but also very pretty:
An der Strandpromenade sind wir dann weitergelaufen.
We then walked on along the waterfront.
Unser nächstes Ziel: die Kolumbussäule.
Our next destination: The Columbus Column.

Zwischen den Dekorationen hindurch hat man einen wundervollen Blick auf die Stadt.
Between the decorations you can catch wonderful views of the city.
Als nächstes haben wir die berühmte Promenade La Rambla angesteuert. Dort haben wir im wunderbaren Sonnenschein draußen gesessen und gegessen und ganz nebenbei Entertainment Nr. 3 genossen.
Our next steps were towards the famous promenade La Rambla. There we sat outside in the beautiful sunshine and ate and as a „side dish“ enjoyed entertainment no. 3.
Und wenn wir schon nummerieren: Hier die zweite wunderschöne Laterne, diesmal mit kleinen Köpfchen.
And since we are numbering things right now: Here you see the second gorgeous street lamp, this time with little heads.
Oh, und wir durften noch überall rein … aber Corona war nicht fern.
Oh, and we were allowed entry everywhere … but corona was not far.
In einer engen Gasse waren an der Mauer entlang wieder wunderschöne Wasserspeier zu sehen:
In a narrow alley along a wall we once again found beautiful gargoyles:
Und dann haben wir unser letztes Ziel für heute erreicht: Die Kathedrale.
And then we reached our last destination for today: The cathedral.
Auch an dieser Kirche gab es viele Wasserspeier, zum Beispiel diesen interessanten Kriegselefanten:
At this church as well, there were many gargoyles, this interesting war elephant for example:
Der Bau dieser Kirche hat deutlich länger gedauert, zwischen dem 13. und 15. Jahrhundert.
The erection of this church took much longer, between the 13th and 15th centuries.
Auch in dieser Kirche war das Licht ganz besonders.
In this church as well, the light was very special.
Und hier darf man auch, über Metallgerüste, aufs Dach!
And here you are also allowed to go up to the roof, via metal scaffolding!
Der Blick über die Stadt ist wieder atemberaubend …
The view across the city is once again breathtaking …
… aber auch den Kirchenbau kann man von hier oben nochmal ganz anders erfassen.
… but also the composition of the church you can see much more clearly from up here.
Wenn man die Kathedrale verlässt, kommt man in den schönen Kreuzgang.
When you leave the cathedral, you come to the beautiful cloister.
Und da wohnen nicht nur metallene Drachen … sondern auch Gänse. Genauer gesagt: 13 weiße Gänse, weil die heilige Eulalia, der die Kirche gewidmet ist, wohl 13 war, als sie ihren Märtyrertod starb.
And there, not only metallic dragons do live … but also geese. To be more exact: 13 white geese, because the holy Eulalia, to whom the church is dedicated, might have been 13 when she died as a martyr.
Nach all diesen Sehenswürdigkeiten haben wir uns eine Pause im Hotel gegönnt und sind erst abends wieder auf die Straße. Wir waren nicht weit vom Strand, also sind wir dort hingegangen.
After all this sightseeing, we took a bit of a time out at the hotel, and did not go out again till evening. We were quite close to the beach, so we went straight down to the water.
Da haben wir vor dem Schlafengehen den Mond und den Sonnenuntergang genossen … Gute Nacht!
