Unser letzter Tag in Barcelona, leider, leider. Also haben wir aus unserem Hotel, in dem wir uns sehr wohl gefühlt haben, ausgecheckt.
Our last day in Barcelona, sadly, sadly. So we checked out of our hotel, in which we felt very much at home.
Wie immer geht es als erstes zur U-Bahn. Aber man kann sich in Barcelona auch sehr gut mit dem Rad fortbewegen, selbst wenn man selber keines hat. Wir haben sehr viele solche Stationen gesehen:
As always, first we walk to the subway. But in Barcelona you can also travel around very well on a bicycle, even if you yourself don’t own one. We have spotted quite a few of these sites:
Unser Heimflug wird heute kurz nach sechs Uhr nachmittags sein. Also haben wir als erstes eine Gepäckstation angesteuert, haben dort das Rollköfferchen und den Laptop eingesperrt und sind dann los Richtung Montjuïc.
Our flight back home will be this afternoon shortly after six. So first of all we headed for a luggage storage place, left our little trolley and the laptop there and then got going in the direction of Montjuïc.
Das ist eine Region im Süden der Stadt, ein grüner Fleck auf dem Stadtplan. Dort fand die Weltausstellung 1929 statt, und die olympischen Spiele 1992 wurden hier eröffnet.
That is a region in the South of the city, a green spot on the city map. There, the World Fair of 1929 took place, and the Olympic Games of 1992 were started here as well.
Unser Tag auf dem „Berg“ Montjuïc (173m über dem Meeresspiegel) beginnt schon mit einer spannenden Anreise. Zunächst mit der Zahnradbahn, die sogar zum ÖPNV gehört, also mussten wir nicht mal gesondert dafür zahlen.
Our day on the „mountain“ Montjuïc (173m above sea level) already began with an exciting journey to get there. First of all with the funicular that is even part of the public transport system, so we did not have to pay extra.
Bei der Seilbahn war das anders, 8,90€ pro Person, wenn man nicht auf halber Strecke aussteigen will, dann wird es noch teurer.
That was different with the cable car, 8,90€ per person, provided you do not want to get out in the middle of the track, then it gets even more expensive.
Denn, diese Bahn macht einen Knick. Da kann man aussteigen, ein paar Fotos knipsen und dann weiterfahren …
Because, this line goes around a corner. There you can get out, take a few snapshots and then ride on …
Aber auch aus der Bahn kann man wunderbar den Blick über die Stadt genießen.
But you can also enjoy a magnificent view across the city from the cable car.
Und in Richtung Meer wird der Blick gleich ganz fantastisch, wenn wir erst mal die Festung aus dem 17. Jahrhundert erreicht haben. Auf dem Weg dahin hat sich nur eine von uns ablenken lassen …
And in the direction of the ocean we will have a spectacular view in a minute, once we have reached the fortress dating back to the 17th century. On the way there only one of us got distracted …
Auf den anderen Kanonen durfte man nicht herumklettern. – Nicht, dass das irgenjemand gewollt hätte …!
On the other canons you were not allowed to climb around. – Not that anybody would have wanted to …!

Aber hier nun endlich der versprochene Blick runter aufs Wasser, riesige Hafenanlagen und Massen an Containern.

Aber wenden wir uns dem Gemäuer zu.
But let us turn to these old walls.
Im 19. Jahrhundert wurde die Festung das hauptsächliche Militärgefängnis der Stadt. Hier wurde zum Beispiel der Lehrer Francisco Ferrer inhaftiert, dem vorgeworfen wurde, während der „Tragischen Woche“ den Aufstand angeführt zu haben. Er wurde hier am 13.10.1909 hingerichtet. (ganz kurz: Streiks und Demonstrationen der Arbeiterklasse nach Einberufung von 40.000 Reservisten zum Marokkokrieg)
In the 19th century, the fortress was used as the main military prison of the city. The teacher Francisco Ferrer was jailed here for example. He was accused of having led the rebellion during the „Tragic Week“. He was executed here 13.10.1909. (in short: strikes and demonstrations by the working class after 40.000 reservists had been called to support the war in Morocco)
Wir sind die Gänge einfach mal abgelaufen und haben all diese Mauern auf uns wirken lassen. Die Festung fand ihren Anfang wohl im November 1640: 500 Bürger kletterten damals auf den Montjuïc, um den alten Aussichtsturm dort zu befestigen.
We simply walked along the corridors a bit and let all these walls „speak to us“. It seems the fortress had its beginning in November 1640: back then 500 citizens climbed the Montjuïc, to fortify the old look-out tower there.
1640-1659 war der „Aufstand der Schnitter“. Die katalanische Bevölkerung war gezwungen, kastilische Truppen zu beherbergen, und klagte über religiöse Übergriffe, Vergewaltigungen, Zerstörung von Privateigentum. Der Tod eines Schnitters an Fronleichnam 1640 war der Auslöser der Unruhen.
1640-1659 the „Reapers‘ War“ took place. The Catalan population was forced to house Castilian troups, and was increasingly complaining about religious sacrileges, rapes, destruction of private property. The death of a reaper on Corpus Christi day 1640 finally triggered the riots.
Übrigens: die katalanische Nationalhymne Els Segadors (Die Schnitter) wurzelt in diesen Ereignissen.
By the way: the Catalan national anthem Els Segadors (The Reapers) has its basis in this revolt.
Aber zurück zu unseren 500 Bürgern: Sie bauten eine quadratische Ebene mit vier Türmen und einem Graben außen herum und einer geschützten Straße hinunter in die Stadt. In wenig mehr als einem Monat schufen sie aus dem Nichts eine Festung, die Schauplatz der berühmten Schlacht von Montjuïc war, 26.01.1641. Damals wurden die Truppen von Philip IV. deutlich geschlagen.
But back to our 500 citizens: They built a square platform with four bastions and a moat around it and an entrenched road down to the city. In little over a month they improvised a fortress that was the place of the famous Battle of Montjuïc, 26.01.1641. In that, Philip IV’s troops were heavily defeated.
Während des Franco-Regimes wurde die Festung übrigens auch wieder als Gefängnis und Hinrichtungsstätte genutzt.
During the Franco regime the fortress was once again used as a prison and as a site for executions.
Wir ziehen jetzt weiter … dieses Mal zu Fuß unter der Seilbahn durch.
We will now travel on … this time on foot below the cable cars.
Immer wieder hat man hier einen wunderbaren Blick über die Stadt.
Again and again you enjoy a beautiful view across the city here.
Und um uns herum waren wir herrlich im Grünen, da gab es auch hier und da schicke Insekten zu sehen. Hier zum Beispiel ein „Mauerfuchs“.
And close around us there was all this wonderful green, and there we also saw pretty insects here and there. Here for example a „wall“.
Natürlich auch die schönen schwarzen Bienen.

Dann wieder der Blick über die Stadt: Wir kommen allmählich zum Olympia-Gelände.
Then again a look at the city: We come ever closer to the Olympic compound.
Der 136m hohe Fernsehturm wurde auch anlässlich der Spiele errichtet.
The 136m high television tower was also errected on the occasion of the Games.

Um uns herum immer noch ganz viel Grün, ganz viel Ruhe, ganz viel Leben, Vögel und Insekten.
All around us still lots of green, lots of peace and quiet, lots of live, birds and insects.

Wir sind hier eine ganze Weile herumgelaufen. Lauter Straßen und Abzweigungen gesäumt von diesen „Regalen“ von Gräbern.
We walked around here for quite a while. Lots of streets and side roads bordered by these „shelves“ of graves.
Nur ganz oben auf dem Hügel sieht es dann mehr so aus, wie wir es von Friedhöfen gewohnt sind.
Only at the very top of the hill it looks more like what we are used to from cemeteries.
Hier liegt übrigens der Maler Joan Miró begraben. Und Hans Gamper, ein Schweizer Fußballspieler und Gründungsmitglied des FC Barcelona. Irgendwo … wir haben nicht nach bestimmten Gräbern gesucht.
By the way, the painter Joan Miró is to be found here. And Hans Gamper, a Swiss football player and one of the founders of the FC Barcelona. Somewhere … we did not search for specific graves.

Naja, genug Friedhof. Jetzt sehen wir uns das Olympiagelände an. Wir sind einfach mehr oder weniger Luftlinie gelaufen …
Oh well, enough cemetery. Now we will take a closer look at the Olympic grounds. We pretty much walked as the crow flies …
… und das war die beste Idee. Hier war es noch ruhiger, auf diesem versteckten Weg gab es wirklich nur uns und die Tiere und Pflanzen.

Wieder mal bei schönstem Sonnenschein. Mehr Glück mit dem Wetter hätten wir für unseren Kurzaufenthalt wirklich nicht haben können!
Once again in beautiful sunshine. We really could not have had any more luck with the weather for our short vacation!
Hier seht Ihr das superschöne Olympiastadion in seiner ganzen Pracht. – Seinen Ursprung hat auch dieses Gebäude in der Weltausstellung 1929. Dort fanden die Eröffnungs-, die Schlussfeier und die Leichtathletik-Wettkämpfe statt.
Here you see the beautiful Olympic stadium in all its glory. – The origins of this building also lie in the World Fair of 1929. There the opening and closing ceremonies and the athletics competitions all took place here.

Naja, wir sind alles einmal abgelaufen, so viel zu sehen gab es da ja nicht. Und dann hatten wir immer noch eine ganze Menge Zeit übrig, also haben wir uns auch noch den botanischen Garten angesehen, der ist auch auf dem „Hausberg“.
Well, we walked once all around the area, but there was not all that much to see. And then we still had quite a bit of time left, so we decided to take a look at the botanical garden, that is also situated on the „local mountain“.
Und auch da waren wir wohl ziemlich alleine … wir haben nur ein paar Angestellte getroffen.
And there as well we had the feeling we were pretty much alone … we only met a few employees.

Diese hier fanden wir besonders hübsch. Ganz rechts seht Ihr, wie es aussieht, bevor die Blüten sich öffnen. Dann öffnet sich die Kappe und was man sieht ist wie ein Becher mit Strohhalm, links oben. Und dann entfaltet sich die ganze Blüte.
These here we thought were especially pretty. On the far right you see what it looks like before the blooms open. Then the cap opens and what you then see looks like a cup with a straw, upper left. And then the whole flower unfolds.
Zwischendrin haben wir immer mal wieder einen Blick auf die Stadt geworfen. Es war unwirklich, dass die Gebäude so nah waren, denn zwischen all den Pflanzen fühlten wir uns wie am Ende der Welt – es war so unglaublich ruhig (bis auf das Vogelgezwitscher).
In between we glanced over at the city here and there. That really felt unreal, the buildings being so close, because between all these plants, we felt as if we were at the end of the world – it was so incredibly quiet (except for the birds chirping).
Und natürlich waren neben den Vögeln viele Bienen da.
And of course apart from the birds there were many bees around as well.
Zum Beispiel an der Wachsblume, cerinthe major. Tolle Farben, nicht wahr?

Zwischen all diesen Blüten, im hellen Sonnenschein und der Wärme haben wir eigentich gar keine Lust, heute wieder ins kühle, graue Bremen zu fliegen!
Between all these flowers, in the bright sunshine and the warmth, we don’t really feel like flying back to cold and grey Bremen today!
Zum Abschied ist uns noch ein kleines Highlight gegönnt: Ein Taubenschwänzchen. Sehr emsig und schnell unterwegs, wir hatten Glück, dass wir ihn auf einem Foto festhalten konnten. Der Saugrüssel hat eine Länge von 25 bis 28mm! Wie Kolibris fliegen sie von Blüte zu Blüte.
Before leaving we were allowed one last little highlight: A hummingbird hawk-moth. Very diligent and fast moving, we were very lucky to actually get it caught on camera. The proboscis has a length of 25 to 28mm! Like little hummingbirds they fly from flower to flower.
Tja … das wars, leider. Jetzt sind wir vor lauter Insekten-Schauen spät dran, ab zum Flughafen!
Well … that was it, unfortunately. Now after all the insect watching, we are actually a bit late, so off to the airport now!
Wir sind wieder mit der Lufthansa geflogen … In einem etwas älteren Design, aus den 60ern oder so?!

Könnte das der Grund sein, warum beim Aussteigen die Lichter ausgingen?

Fazit: Barcelona ist eine tolle Stadt, es gibt eine Menge zu sehen und wir haben nur einen Bruchteil davon geschafft – wir kommen wieder!
Conclusion: Barcelona is a fantastic city, there is lots and lots to see, and we have only managed a very small part of that – we will come back!
