Doch zunächst sind wir nicht weit gekommen … die Bauern waren fleißig am Arbeiten auf den Feldern, und da werden natürlich kleine Tiere aufgeschreckt.
But at first we did not get very far … the farmers were very busy working on their fields, and of course that sets many small animals running.
Das haben auch die Greifvögel gelernt.

Über einem Feld habe ich 10 gleichzeitig gezählt!
Above one field I counted 10 at the same time!
Dann sind wir wieder ein Stück weiter … aber wer ist da neben der Straße unterwegs??? Anhalten!
Then we drove on for a bit … but who is that there, out and about near the street??? Stop!
Aber es waren nicht nur Raubvögel unterwegs …
But not only birds of prey were around …
Ein ganz seltenes Exemplar, ich glaube, den gibts nur ein einziges Mal!
A very rare specimen, I do believe, that is a one-of-a-kind!
Nein, einsperren wollen wir ihn nicht. Wir sind jetzt an unserer nächsten Station: Dem Bärenwald Müritz. Und da müssen die Besucher durch Zauntunnel, damit die Bären ihre Ruhe haben. Und wir waren ganz aufgeregt, als wir den ersten entdeckten:
No, we do not want to lock him up. We now reached our next stop: The Bear Sanctuary Müritz. And there the visitors must walk through fence tunnels, so that the bears have peace and quiet. And we were quite excited when we discovered the first one:
Da war Schlafen angesagt, aber wir hatten Glück, dass wir genau dann da waren, als auch mal ein Gähnen drin war.
Here sleeping was the order of the moment, but we were lucky, because we were around, when it was time for a bit of a yawn.
Beim still darauf warten, dass sich ein Bär irgendwo rührt, haben wir natürlich auch wieder Vögel gesehen. Wir haben Kolkraben gehört und haben sie fliegen sehen, und hier haben wir einen Buchfink.
While keeping still and waiting to spot bears somewhere, we of course also saw birds again. We heard ravens and saw them fly, and here we have a chaffinch.
Wir haben über zehn Bären gesehen! Die Tiere hier wurden alle irgendwo aus „nicht artgerechter Haltung“ gerettet. Da gibt es Bären, die in kleinen Zoos in Betongehegen gehalten wurden, in einem winzigen Käfig vor einem Zirkus … wir haben gelesen von Bären, die angekettet benutzt werden, um Jagdhunde zu dressieren etc etc etc …
We saw more than ten bears! The animals here were all rescued from places where they were „not kept according to their needs“. There are bears who had lived in small zoos in cement enclosures, in a tiny cage in front of a circus … we read about bears who were chained and used to train dogs for hunting etc etc etc …
Aber es gab auch viel andere Informationen zu entdecken. Hier im Tipi zum Beispiel haben wir Bären gefunden in Sternbildern, Höhlenmalerei …
But there was also much other knowledge to discover. Here in the teepee for example we found bears in constellations, cave painting …
… bis hin zu Gummibären und Teddies.

Dann gab es einen Pfad mit Tierlauten. Erst hat man sich die angehört und überlegt, was für ein Tier das sein könnte, dann konnte man sich die Lösung ansehen …
Then there was a path with animal sounds. First you listened to them and throught about what animal that could be, then you could look at the solution …
… und im Wald um sich die dazugehörige Figur finden.
… and find the corresponding figurine in the woods around you.
Es gab ein kleines Labyrinth und rechts die Bärenhöhle für den Winterschlaf.
There was a small labyrinth and on the right the bear’s den for hibernation.
Zurück zu den echten Bären. Ihr Futter wird immer wieder anders gereicht, damit es nicht langweilig wird und die Bären auch danach suchen müssen.
Back to the real bears. Their food is handed out in constantly changing ways, so that it does not get boring and so that the bears have to search for it.
Das hier ist Michael. Er kam aus einem Zoo in Polen, wo er eine 60 Quadratmeter kleine Betongrube bewohnte. Sein rechtes Vorderbein verlor er im Kampf mit einem anderen Bären.
This here is Michael. He came from a zoo in Poland where he had lived in a concrete pit measuring only 60 square meters. He lost his right foreleg in a fight with another bear.
Und das hier ist womöglich Otto mit dem leichten Silberblick. Er lebte davor in Deutschland in privater Haltung in einem Gehege von 150 Quadratmetern: Gitterstäbe und Betonboden, sonst nichts.
And this here might be Otto with the slight squint. Before he was privately owned in Germany in an enclosure of 150 square meters: metal rods and a concrete floor, that was all.
Wir können den Bärenwald nur empfehlen! Aber jetzt müssen wir wieder weiter … wie zuvor auch mit Stopps zur Vogelbeobachtung.
We can only recommend the Bears Sanctuary! But now we have to move on … as before also with bird watching stops.

In Schwerin sind wir erst ins Hotel und dann noch kurz auf einen Spaziergang, um ein paar nette Bilder vom Schloss aus der Entfernung zu schießen. – Man weiß nie, wie das Licht morgen ist.
In Schwerin we first went to the hotel and then went for a short stroll, to shoot a few pictures of the castle from a distance. – You never know how the light might be tomorrow.
