Ja, es ist eine lange Fahrt, die wir heute vor uns haben. Von Colmar nach Bremen sind es über 700km. Aber das ist nicht der Grund, warum wir mitten in der Nacht unterwegs sind …
Yes, it is a long drive that we have ahead of us today. From Colmar to Bremen, that is more than 700km. But that is not the reason why we are out and about in the middle of the night …
Die Sache ist die: Das mit dem Parken in Colmars Altstadt ist ja nicht so ganz einfach … aber nur etliche Meter von unserer Unterkunft entfernt ist ein kleiner Parkplatz. Da wollten wir gestern den Wagen parken … Doch als wir vom HWK wiederkamen, hat uns das Navi in alle möglichen Ecken und Richtungen geschickt, aber den Parkplatz haben wir nicht erreicht.
The thing is: The whole topic of parking is not exactly an easy one in Colmar’s old part of town … but only a few meters from our abode, there is a small parking lot. That is where yesterday we wanted to park the car … But when we came back from HWK, the satnav sent us to all kinds of nooks and corners, but we never reached that parking lot.
In der Altstadt gibt es halt auch ganz viele kleine Gässchen, Fußgängerzonen und jede Menge Einbahnstraßen. Also haben wir gestern irgendwann aufgegeben und beim Markt geparkt.
As it is, in the old part of town, there are so many narrow alleys, pedestrian zones and lots and lots of one-way streets. So then yesterday we finally did give up and simply parked close to the market.
Und dann in der Nacht sind wir beide ungeplant um halb drei aufgewacht. Das ist die Chance, in Ruhe den Wagen herzufahren! Also hab ich auf meinem Laptop den Stadtplan aufgerufen, und wir haben uns einen Weg zurechtgelegt. Den auf dem Plan zu finden war schon schwierig … aber wie wir dann zum Auto sind und versucht haben, diesem Plan zu folgen, hat sich gezeigt, geht auch nicht! Hier Einbahnstraße, da keine Durchfahrt … gut, dass um halb vier Uhr morgens kein Mensch (auch keine Polizei) unterwegs ist …. Wir haben unseren Parkplatz! – Und jetzt ab zurück ins Bett!
And then, in the night, totally unplanned, both of us woke up at two thirty. That was our chance to drive the car here in peace and quiet! So I called up the city map on my laptop and together we found a path that should work. To find that on the map was difficult enough … but when we then went to the car and tried to follow the path we had selected, it became clear that it was not feasible either! A one-way street here, no passage there … good thing that at three thirty in the morning nobody (no police either) is on the streets … We have our parking spot! – And now back to bed!
Morgens haben wir dann unser Gepäck nicht weit bis zum Auto tragen müssen, und dann sind wir los.
In the morning then, we did not have to carry our luggage very far before reaching the car, and then we left.
In Scheibenhard (Frankreich) / Scheibenhardt (Deutschland) fahren wir über die Grenze. Auf Wiedersehen, schönes Elsass, wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder!
In Scheibenhard (France) / Scheibenhardt (Germany) we cross the border. Good bye, beautiful Alsace, we will most definitely come back!
Und dann ein Stückchen weiter … hier wird die Geschwindigkeit geprüft und angezeigt. Und wenn man zu schnell ist, gibts das rote Ausrufezeichen!
And then a bit further on … here the speed is monitored and displayed. And when you are driving too fast, you get the red exclamation mark!
Und auch noch eine Mahnung auf gut pfälzisch: Uffbasse!
And also an admonition in the local dialect: Uffbasse! (Watch out!)
Aber wir waren natürlich brav: Basst!
But of course we did behave: Basst! (Well done!)
Das ist dann auch das Fazit zu unserem Urlaub … 🙂
