Ein “Luxusproblem”, klar … aber für Leute, deren größtes Hobby Reisen ist, kann die Pandemie irgendwann ziemlich nerven.
A “luxury” problem, for sure … but for people whose biggest passion is traveling, the pandemic can be quite annoying after a while.
Wir wollten ja nach Australien, unsere Freunde da wieder besuchen. Also haben wir in der Arbeit abgeklärt, wann sie am besten auf uns verzichten könnten. Wir haben uns so gefreut, als wir das Okay hatten, Ende September einen Monat freizunehmen!
Originally we had wanted to take a trip to Australia, to visit our friends there once again. So we got that straightened out at work, when they could best do without us. We were so happy when we got the green light for taking a month off at the end of September!
Aber: Australien lässt niemand rein, und Nicht-Australier schon gar nicht! – Na gut, dann eben woanders hin … Hawaii! Da wollen wir noch viel ansehen (unseren ersten Aufenthalt auf „Bis Island“ hat es ja in großen Teilen verregnet), und dafür lohnen sich die vier Wochen auch auf jeden Fall.
But: Australia won’t let anybody in, least of all non-Australians! – Okay, so somewhere else then … Hawaii! There is still much for us to explore there (a large part of our first trip to the Big Island having been drowned in rain), and four weeks make a lot of sense here as well.
Aber: Egal, wie sehr wir es uns gewünscht haben, die USA haben die Grenzen nicht früh genug geöffnet. Also auch nix.
But: No matter how much we wished for it, the USA did not open their borders in time. So not a chance here either.
Kanada hat aber die Regeln jetzt geändert, wer komplett geimpft ist, darf als Tourist ins Land. Nach viel Planung und hin und her haben wir gebucht: 29.9. – 21.10. Ab nach Vancouver, und von da rüber auf Vancouver Island, da gibt es eine Menge zu sehen. Wale zum Beispiel …
Canada though did change the rules recently; fully vaccinated people are permitted to travel there as tourists. After a lot of planning and back and forth, we did book: 29.9. – 21.10. First to Vancouver and from there to Vancouver Island, there is lots to see there. Whales for example …
Zu dumm nur, dass da Anfang Oktober nicht mehr viel zu haben ist … Aber nach vielen Mails, die wir mit einem Anbieter ausgetauscht haben, haben wir die letzten zwei Plätze gekriegt, gleich am 30.9.! Na gut, also, Ankunft in Vancouver nachmittags um fünf, dann mit dem Mietwagen hoch nach Horseshoe Bay zur Fähre, mit der letzten um 22:10 Uhr rüber nach Nanaimo, da übernachten und am nächsten Morgen noch die 150km nach Campbell River, um 10:30 Uhr müssen wir da sein für die Whale-Watching-Tour – das ist zu schaffen!!!
Too bad that at the beginning of October there is not all that much on offer anymore … But after exchanging a lot of mails with one enterprise, we got the last two available spots, right on September 30! Okay, so, we get to Vancouver at five in the afternoon, then with the rental car up to Horseshoe Bay, to the ferry, with the last one at 10:10 pm over to Nanaimo, spend the night there, and the next morning drive the remaining 150km to Campbell River, at 10:30 am we have to be there for the whale watching tour, that is doable!
