Heute machen wir uns wieder auf den Weg … zurück an die Ostküste. Dass da die Baustelle auf uns wartet, wissen wir ja schon.
Today we will be traveling again … back to the east coast. We already know that this big construction site is waiting for us there.
Die Straße war „gepflastert“ mit Schildern.
The road was „paved“ with signs.
Wir sind ganz brav gefahren, ohne anzuhalten oder zu schnell zu fahren.
We drove very nicely, without stopping or going too fast.
Wir wollten ja nicht wie das kleine Cartoon-Autochen durch die Gegend hopsen …
After all we did not want to jump all over the place like this little cartoon car …
… und außerdem: es hat geschüttet ohne Ende.
… and also: it was pouring rain like crazy.
Also sind wir direkt nach Victoria, der Hauptstadt von British Columbia, durchgefahren, bis zum Beaconsfield Inn.
So we made it in one go directly to Victoria, the capital of British Columbia, straight to the Beaconsfield Inn.
Victoria ist ein kleines Stück England, und dieses Bed and Breakfast passt genau ins Bild!
Victoria is a little piece of England, and this bed and breakfast fits the picture perfectly!
1904 hat Gertrude Rither dieses Haus als Hochzeitsgeschenk von ihrem Vater erhalten.
1904 Gertrude Rither received this house as a wedding gift from her father.
Wir sind dann gleich in das Herz der Stadt gelaufen. Da haben wir diese beiden entdeckt, von denen ich im Regen nur einen schnellen Schnappschuss gemacht habe … wir kommen die nächsten Tage ja nochmal vorbei! Doch: beim nächsten Mal waren die beiden weg! Diese Skulptur, die aus fast 10.000 Pflanzen besteht und über 5.100 kg wiegt, wird jeden Herbst in ein Treibhaus zum Überwintern gebracht.
We then left right away to walk into the heart of town. There we discovered these two here, of whom I only snapped a quick photo in the rain … we will come by here more often in the following days! But: the next time those two had disappeared! This sculpture, which consists of almost 10.000 plants and which weighs over 5.100 kg, is moved into a greenhouse each fall, to hibernate there.
