Today we have to leave this pretty island. It is called Garden Island for a reason, so much green everywhere …
Wir waren früh genug unterwegs, um uns noch einen kleinen Abstecher zu gönnen.
We were early enough so that we could allow ourselves a little detour.
Wie der Zaun zeigt, sind wir direkt beim Flughafen, aber wir wollen zum Leuchtturm.
As the fence shows, we are right at the airport, but we want to go to the lighthouse.
Kurz davor haben wir diese spannenden Kakteen gefunden, die wir noch nirgends sonst auf der Insel gesehen haben.
Close to it, we found these interesting cacti that we have not seen anywhere else on the island so far.

Eine sehr schöne Ecke hier. Der Ausblick ist toll, auch wenn wir nicht auf den Leuchtturm hoch konnten.

Jetzt müssen wir aber auch los, sonst verpassen wir unseren Flug!
But now we really have to get going, or we will miss our flight!
Und von wegen Vögel: Nene haben wir leider bisher keine gesehen. Das ist eine Gans, die es nur auf den hawaiianischen Inseln gibt, seit 1957 der Staatsvogel des Bundesstaates.
And speaking about birds: Nene we have not seen so far, unfortunately. The is a goose that is only to be found on the Hawaiian islands, since 1957 the state bird of this state.
Dann sind wir abgeflogen. Natürlich über Honolulu, es gibt kaum direkte Flüge zwischen den Inseln, man muss immer über die Hauptinsel. Und, ja, das hier ist Teil des Flughafens!
Then we took off. Of course via Honolulu, there are next to no direct flights between the islands, you always have to go via the main island. And, yes, this here is part of the airport!
Wir hatten keinen langen Aufenthalt, dann ging es wieder weiter.
We did not have a long stopover, then we traveled on.
Hier sind wir wohl über Moloka’i.

Direkt danach kam Maui, und wenig später unser nächstes Ziel: Hawai’i selber, oder „the Big Island“.
Right afterwards there came Maui, and soon after our next destination: Hawai’i itself, or the “Big Island”.
Wir haben unseren Mietwagen geholt, dieses Mal tatsächlich ein weißer Kia Soul (den wollten sie uns auf Kauai ja schon verpassen), voller Beulen und Rostflecken, komplett mit fleckigen Sitzen … hm. Naja, wenig später waren wir glücklich in unserer Unterkunft, dem Bed & Breakfast in Hilo, wo wir 2018 schon gewohnt hatten.
We then picked up our rental car, this time actually a white Kia Soul (that is what they had meant to give us on Kauai already), full of dents and rusty spots, complete with stains on the seats … hm. Oh well, a little bit later we had happily arrived at our lodging, the bed & breakfast in Hilo where we had already stayed in 2018.
Und als erstes sind wir … nein, nicht ins Aquarium.
