On our last full day on this island we were all alone for breakfast. Over the last few days we met quite a few people here who had booked a room in the bed & breakfast for a day or two: From Germany, the Netherlands, Utah …
Naja, ganz alleine waren wir nicht.

Zum Abschluss genießen wir noch einmal die Veranda, den „lanai“.
Now at the end of our stay, we once again enjoy the patio, the “lanai”.
Aber irgendwann mussten wir dann doch los, trotz Regen. Es gibt noch einiges zu erledigen.
But eventually we did have to get going, notwithstanding the rain. There is still some stuff to take care of.

Wir haben unsere Wäsche-Karte mit Restguthaben verschenkt, dann haben wir nochmal Parks von Hilo angesehen.
We gave away our laundry card with still some money on it, then we once again went to check out parks in Hilo.
Hier dachten wir, wir hätten einen tollen entdeckt … große Banyan Bäume und das Gefühl von Urwald …
Here we thought we had discovered a great one … large banyan trees and this jungle feeling …
Aber es hat sich herausgestellt, hinter all diesem Grünzeug ist ein anderes Grün: ein Golfplatz. Wir sind hier am „Banyan Drive“, gesäumt von Banyan Bäumen, die von wichtigen Leuten gepflanzt wurden. Der, vor dem ich stand: 1941 von James S. McCandless, einem Freimaurer.
But it turned out, behind all that greenery, there is a different kind of green: a golf course. Here we are at the “Banyan Drive”, lined with banyan trees that were planted by important people. The one that I had been standing in front of: 1941 by James S. McCandless, a freemason.
Aber gegenüber ist der schmale Reeds Bay Beach Park, wo wir zum dritten Mal Nene gesehen haben.
But just across the way is the narrow Reeds Bay Beach Park, where we spotted nene for the third time.
Und wie ich mit dem Fotografieren der Gänse beschäfigt bin, hat Torben schon wieder etwas anderes entdeckt:
And while I am busy with taking pictures of the geese, Torben once again discovered something else already:
Eine Schildkröte so nah! Wir haben ihr lange zugesehen, wie sie den Boden abgegrast hat.
A turtle so close by! We watched it for a long time, as it grazed along the bottom.
Wunderschön! Ich glaube, das ist eine grüne Meeresschildkröte.
Just gorgeous! I do think it is a green sea turtle.
Aber irgendwann ist sie weiter geschwommen und wir sind weiter gefahren. Als wir zu den Liliuokalani Gardens gefahren waren, war uns unterwegs diese Brücke links im Hintergrund aufgefallen.
But eventually it swam on, and we drove on. When we had visited the Liliuokalani Gardens, we had on the way noticed this bridge you see on the left in the background.
Die steht im Wailoa River State Park, den wir uns dann genauer angesehen haben. Und es gab eine Menge zu sehen!
It is standing in the Wailoa River Park, which we now took a closer look at. And there was lots to see!
Diese Statue ehrt König Kamehameha I., Gründer des Köngireiches Hawaii.
This statue is honoring King Kamehameha I, founder of the Kingdom of Hawaii.
In diesem Park gibt es auch eine Menge Kriegsdenkmäler. Korea, 2. Weltkrieg, oder hier: Vietnam.
In this park you also find a lot of war memorials. Korea, Word War II or here: Vietnam.
Wir hätten uns das alles gerne genauer und in Ruhe angesehen, aber es regnet schon wieder ☹
