Well, we got up just before six, and to keep our strength up we had waffles for breakfast. The shape does remind us of something …
Und dann sind wir losgefahren. Gestern waren uns die Reifen aufgefallen, heute haben wir uns an den schönen Blumen erfreut.
And then we took to the road. Yesterday we noticed the tires, today we enjoyed the pretty flowers.
Aus dem Auto (und nur aus dem fahrenden Auto … nie, wenn wir angehalten haben) haben wir viele Geier fliegen sehen.
Out of the car (and only out of the moving car … never when we took a stop) we saw many vultures fly.
Es war nicht viel Verkehr. Wenige Autos, und nur ein Haus …
There was not much traffic. Few cars, and only one house …
Nach drei Stunden waren wir an der Grenze: Von 1836 bis 1846 existierte die Republik Texas, und hier steht der letze Grenzstein, der noch existiert.
After three hours we had reached the border: Between 1836 and 1846 the Republic of Texas existed, and here stands the last marker that is still around.
Davor war die Region übrigens der Mexikanische Bundesstaat Coahuila y Tejas.
Before that, by the way, the region had been the Mexican state of Coahuila y Tejas.
Wir sind dann weiter, zum Caddo Lake National Wildlife Refuge, wo früher eine Munitionsfabrik stand.
We then traveled on, to the Caddo Lake National Wildlife Refuge, where there used to be an ammunition plant.
Die hier sieht auch nicht ungefährlich aus … eine Ameisenwespe.
This one here does not look innocuous either … a velvet ant.
Und er hier wirkt regelrecht stachelig …

Eine Menge Grashüpfer waren zu sehen, in den verschiedensten Größen.
There were a lot of grasshoppers to be seen, in all kinds of sizes.
Wir sind erst durch den Wald gewandert …
First we hiked through the forest …
… dann sind wir zum See.
… then we went to the lake.
So schön!
So beautiful!
Auch die Wasserhyazinthen ..
Also the water hyacinths …
Und dann erst die Libellen!
And wait till you see the dragonflies!
Die blauen und die grünen.

Aber wir müssen jetzt mal wieder los!
